Minelab drops Excal warranty !

Bling

You can't Buy the Extended 2 year Warranty for the Minelab Excalibur II any more. It comes with a one year Warranty only and thats all you can get. But on all of the other ones they will give you a 3 year Warranty now. I dont like this at all.i found this on another forum.

Bling, I'm afraid you are correct. As of March first no Minelab extended warranty's. This from Rick(ND) while ordering my new Sov GT end of Feb. He's a Minelab dealer and very knowledgeable. Check with him to be sure. And yes, I did get a S-12 SunRay Intruder coil to go with it. Great combo, found gold first two times out. Thanks for all your help!

this is the answer i got by email! ....Yes, It is true, as of March 1st, 2009 . All other machines will have a 3 year warranty

Except the Excalibur which will have only one year warranty.

Thank you,

Becky Campau

They are still honoring the extended warranty if purchased prior to March 1, 2009. Correct?

I bought my Excalibur II from KellyCo with the Two yr warranty plus the one yr it comes with I would hope the honer it, so far I'm very happy with the way the Excal works but if the don't stand behind there product when i need it then this will be my last Minelab. I see the before post they will if its prior to March 1st I did buy my before then................

It sounds to me that this is the beginning of Phase 1 in preparation of developing a newer and better model. If one does eventually come out you don't want a bunch of machines out there which you have to honor for the next three years or a bunch of machines that your customer has had mods made to. This could hurt the sell of a new product. Think about it. I'm not saying it is now but maybe it will be here in the next year or two. JUST MAYBE!!

Maybe they have been spending to much on the warranty work after 1 year and it's to expensive even to sell the warranty? Makes me think they don't have faith in the excal lasting very long with out repair being done. Just a thought.

Not surprising. It takes 2-3 months to repair them as they are way under staffed so this will make things even easier on them. Minelab has to take a good hard look at Garret & Tesoro excellent support & repair.

O well. They are trimming back for some "reason"

Minelabs could be having so many problems with the Excalibur 2 that they just cant afford the extended warranty any more, companies offer to their customers an extended warranty as a way to build consumer confidence in their products and to add extra profits to the companies bottom line.
This whole thing leads me to believe that minelab has big concerns with the reliability of their own product.
Who needs poor quality stock headphones or coils that talk back to you? So the refusal of minelab to all of a sudden not do these customer requested installations of aftermarket coils and headphones could be an attempt to frustrate the customers into doing these installations them self

Part of the post is correct.......

The Excalibur has only a one year warranty, but has always had a one year warranty.

The ESP(Extended Service Plan) was added to all Minelab Detectors at a price.

As of March 1st, The ESP could no longer be purchased from Minelab.

One thing I also see missing, is that other Minelab detector's warranty increased from 2 yrs to 3 yrs.

All previous ESP's will still be honored.

But, Here is the catch............Any ESP's that dealers have in stock will be honored.

Example: If today a customer orders an Excalibur from a dealer they may only get a 1 year warranty.

On the other hand, I myself. I bought 12 ESP's so I can offer the Excalibur with a 36 month warranty on 12 more units.

Hope this helps you to know what is going on, or how it works.
