minelab detectors is it worth it?

I am really into nugget hunting, and detecting in general. I have an Infinium and a GM2. I am looking at getting a GMT and would really like to try a Minelab PI. My question is, is it worth it. I used the Infinium and didnt like it much. Worked great on the beach but not a really good nugget hunter. I have a good spot on a patented mining claim where I have found gold with the GM2. I am looking at selling the Infinium or trading it. Then getting a GMT and a Minelab pi. I really want one (I like my toys)and if I wasn't married I would have bought one already. I am thinking I should get the GMT and see what I can find with it first and then go for the Minelab. Just wondering how good they really are compared to my VLF? Thanks.

Is it worth it?

Thats a really difficult question that depends on your finances, how often you get out to prospect, etc.

Can the Infinium find gold? Yes, no question.
Is the GPX5000 a signifcantly better gold detector than the infinium? Yes, no question.
Is the difference worth it to you? You must answer that one for yourself.
Is it worth it to me? yes, but your personal situation money and family wise may be different than mine.
Would you like the GPX5000? Thats for you to say. I like mine.

The two detectors I use most for prospecting are the GPX 5000 and a Fisher Gold bug 2 (similar to having a GMT and a GPX5000).

" I am thinking I should get the GMT and see what I can find with it first and then go for the Minelab."

Excellent plan. The answer to your main question is that virtually all serious prospectors have and use Minelab PI detectors for the bulk of their nugget detecting. Many often use a VLF also, but the Minelab is the main unit. That tells you all you really need to know about Minelabs being worth it to most people. Mine certainly is to me. If you can reasonably afford one, get it.

Detectors are akin to women--One mans love is yet anothers misery. We all have our favorites and being single is a great help as I can buy anything I want when I want. I much prefer the Tesoro Lobo Super Traq and Gold Bug 2(shoulda kept the original GB also) and a few others as backup. Infiniumn is a fantastic unit,my preference for salt conditions/alkali as pulse but for my purposes VLF works just fine and guaranteed for life Tesoro rocks-John

I certainly would NOt be without a Minelab Pi...but, you don't have to start at the top of the line. For a lot less money you can get any Minelab Pi ever made...and they are all still finding gold in the hands of skilled operators.
If I only wanted the very best, it would be a Minelab 5000 and either a Gold Bug 2 ( or Gold Bug Pro)-or a Whites GMT...The vlf would have a standard coil and the smallest coil available. The Minelab would have three coils; the stock, a 17inch e-mono and a small mono...
