Minelab coils for Goldquest SS ??

therover

Well-known member
Hi all,

I am purchasing 2 Minelab coils ( an 8 inch mono and 11 inch DD coil ) for use on my Goldquest SS V2. They will come with the connector.

My question is, does anyone know if these coils are water proof ? If not, will they at least be able to be used on the wet sand ( where the coil is not submerged but may be subjected to some moisture on the bottom of the coil).

Any help would be appreciated. I am trying to look these coils up, but I really don't know what coils they are. I am assuming they are for the Minelab GP series of detectors ?

Thanks

John

I would be suspect of Minelab coils. They haven't proven out very well to be waterproof. It's generally where the cable goes into the coil shell is where they leak.

John, no Minelab coil is waterproof, or even water resistant.....
Coiltek makes a few waterproof coils, such as the "17 X 10" mini UFO mono, or the "12 X 8" Platypus, either mono or DD....
Nugget Finder is coming out with a new "Advantage" line of water resistant coils that would work well down by the water....

Guess I gotta use them in the dry sand. Since they have coil covers, it may venture to the wet sand but be careful.
