Minelab BIG price difference USA and Australia ?

Terra1959

Hi,

I was wondering if someone (someone from Minelab themselves would be great) could explain why the big difference in new detector prices..

Etrac / Excalibur II / Sovereign GT
$1499 / $1199 / $799 USA
$1795 / $1725 / $1395 Australia ( prices from KellyCo and Miners Den )

I expect that similar occurs right across the Minelab range of detectors
Our dollars are 1 for 1
Aussies are not happy and feel ripped off especially when we have a big Minelab manufacturing factory right here - meaning low distribution costs.
Minelab BAN the retailers in the USA from sending new detectors / coils to Australian's..presumably to maintain the exorbitant prices ( is this called price gouging ? )
We can only buy used Minelab detectors form outside Australia as they have shut down fair competition ..."world economy" - I dont think so
I know we are a smaller population but surely that cannot explain the huge price differences
Its like our smaller Aussie population is subsidising a larger USA population .?
Thanks.

I remember an earlier post here that mentioned that the only Minelab still built in Australia is the GPX 4500. Are the prices for the 4500 also higher in Australia? If not, I would bet it has to do with import taxes. Since the Excal, E-trac and GT are imported they might be taxed at a much higher rate in Australia than here in the U.S. Otherwise the difference makes very little sense.

Same as here in Europe, the prices are much higher for example the sovGT retails at the equivelent to $1049, etrac arround $1740 and excalibur $1600 and the average wage is arround $1200/month if your lucky

Value added tax -
Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a Value Added Tax introduced in Australia in 2000, which is collected by the Federal Government

And probably coming here sooner than you think..then we can all be the same

The $1400 +- price of GOLD do anything for your question ? Of which your country has a large amount of!
He who has the Gold makes the rules ( or is that the price? )

I don't think its anything to do with taxes as the fisher, Garrett are the same price and the whites very similar, if it were taxes there would be the same difference in price on those too

All the above ARE NOT YET involved with the VAT

Should be done here then maybe more people would buy AMERICAN. :usaflag:

The Value Added Tax and Import Taxes are NOT THE SAME THING. :ranting: YOU DON"T WANT VALUE ADDED TAX applied to most everything you buy regardless of country of manufacture. This is called the GOVERNMENT REACHING INTO YOUR POCKET AND REMOVING MONEY. Before you know it, we all work for the government. Not a nice thought.

Now this will get me going?? i bought a Minelab Explorer and an Excalibur, i did the deal and paid cash, checked online only to find out that in America not only do you get them cheaper you also get all these freebies. Now we don't get one thing at all which really made me angry. I thought it was a mistake and contacted the shop where i purchased my Excalibur around June last year and was told "no" Australians don't get freebies. So i presume it's only to suck in overseas buyers and it stinks please tell me where i also get the freebies for when i buy my next upgrade. 'ONE HOPPING GAL"

Cheers Maureen..

Not much differant then americans paying 20.00 dollars a pill and then go to canada and same medicine is .15 cents a pill.same manufacor

It all boils down to one thing. The free market is based on competition. No competition companies can charge what they want. Same thing with oil companies 3 or 4 companies control the market. Get out the wallet. Also the american worker has to compete for jobs with $5/day workers overseas. But where to they sell the products here. Made in China should be sold in China!

Reason for that is there isn't that much call for the pills in Canada cause the patients die waiting for treatment with the socialized medicine- OR THEY COME TO THE US AND GET TREATED and gladly pay the $20.00 per pill:clapping:

Products still would be made here if it wasn't for UNIONS & TAXES

For the most part the "Freebies" that are included with the sale are cheap Chinese junk but for the price difference blame your taxes

In case you haven't noticed union labor has become a small minority in today's labor supply and imported labor from Mexico has become the majority. Also there about 5 people sitting behind a desk, taking 1 1/2 hour lunches, and producing nothing. While they're trying to figure out how to make the one worker more efficient, who's earning their salary for them. So they can hire more people to sit behind a desk, take 1 1/2 hour lunches, and produce nothing. And if all that doesn't work, there's always cheap third world labor, so we can hire more people to sit behind a desk, take 1 1/2 hour lunches and produce nothing. If you read you history you will find that any group of people that gets someone else to do their manual labor, sooner or later will fail. Look at Egypt when it enslaved the Jews. And look at Roman empire and then there is the South. The Bible says man must earn a living by the sweat of his brow and for ages man has been tying to find away around it. But sooner or later it catches up with him. And it appears it's starting to catch up here. Problem is we have too many thinkers and not enough doers. Somebody has to have a job to buy the products that make the rich can get richer. Isn't that the way it's supposed to work?

Well i think i will offer them a deal they give me freebies and i give them a percentage of what i find? don't tell them i don't find much will you.:heh:

Maureen..

I am going to make a suggestion they give me freebies and i give them a cut from what i find? don't tell them i don't find much will you.

Cheers Maureen..

Really? Then could you please explain to me how American manufacturers prospered when union membership was at an all time high and Federal Income tax rates peaked at 95%. .
