minelab and Malaysia

Hello all,
I have recently found out that minelab had moved there factory to Malaysia in 2009. I went to a local dealer today who said he stopped selling minelabs because the quality had gone down and that he knows of former customers who had to send thelir minelabs back to the factory two to three times to have problems fixed. Does anyone know how true this is? How good is thier quality control? I am seriously looking to buy a new minelab rather than used, but if this is the case with the new machines I will stay away from them.

Normally if thats true you hear it on every forum. I have read the constant complaint about customer service and some repairs on the Xcal and Etrac..... but nothing to make you think there are any more repairs than one would expect. Every company has its moment and not every machine is perfect. I believe there is an ASSUMPTION that those coming from Malaysia will be inferior. We had some real problems getting accessories and repair parts. All in all .... detector wise, the Explorers are still kicking butt. I can understand you concern thou...... 1 year warranty isnt long.

[size=large]it's been quiet everytime that question comes up. it's like those who should know have been told not to tell. i've asked this also and was told the manufacturing plant is still in australia but the main HQ is in malaysia, they moved out of ireland and the U.S. HQ left las vegas and moved to indiana or illinios.
if you don't get a good solid answer then take your money to another company. :yo:

Thanks to you both for answering my question. You both "echo" my feelings about the situation. Guess it is time to put it to rest and decide on a machine. I am seriously looking at the SE=Pro and the E-Trac. I most likely will not use the computer with the E-trac but I am wondering about how much faster the processor is than the SE.

Thanks again for the answers.

Sounds like sour grapes with your dealer.
Yes, its true MineLab has some problems, but so do all the manufacturers, and thats no secret. As regards the Malaysian machines, this topic is nothing "hush-hush" or secret, it has been addressed in depth on the Etrac and Excal forums by others who have the same concerns as you. I would suggest you post this thread on the Etrac forum instead, especially since it is getting considerably more traffic this time of year. I think you will be pleasantly surprised to find how many people are REALLY having problems with these so-called "inferior" Malaysian machines.

Opened up a nice new facility in the Chicago, IL area to better serve us.
As for "quality control"???....its news to me.

Again though...if a problem should arise....they are well equipped to help at their new IL facility.
