Minelab 8"DD for E Trac

Leny

New member
I am looking for a smaller coil ( 8") for my e trac. Has anyone experience with the 8"DD from Minelab? Or should I buy another?
I need it to search in narrow maize field, and for the search on trashy areas.

Thanks for your Help

best wishes

Leny

Is it better than the 8" from Minelab?

I own both the S.E.F. 6X8 and the Sun Ray X 5.5 that I use with my E-Trac. I just recently purchased the S.E.F.6X8 and have only used it one time. It seems to work fine in trashy areas and covers more area then the Sun Ray X 5.5.

I have owned and used the Sun Ray X 5.5 for some time and used it many times this past fall. It's a great trash buster, the thicker the trash the better it performs. I have pulled many silver coins out of stacks of nails and aluminum trash. It gets really good depth, and pin points right on the nose. The only complaint is the depth indicator is not very accurate. It has a tendency to show the object to be shallower then it is. Haven't found that to be a big problem.

Another useful item you will find about the smaller coils is the ability to work closer to steel or iron posts. The standard 11" coil that comes with the E-Trac can be a problem in that area. Ether of these coils are much better.

Hope this helps.

Get the Sunray X 8 and never look back. The SEF 6X8 is as heavy as the Pro coil. The X 8 is like having a feather attached to the front of the machine. Changes the whole feel of the ETrac.

I agree with Jack, and I happen to have a new one still in the bag with warranty card for sale on the classifieds.

The SEF is not heavy OMG. It is funny how one will buy the heaviest detector out there and complain about the weight when a differen coil is on it.

I have been using the Sun Ray 8" and 5" coils for some time now and they work great, especially in the trash. The SunRays are also ALOT lighter than the SEF coils due to the lighter epoxy Ralph is using in the SunRays.

I had a X-8 and felt it really did well, but had to try a 8X6 SEF as most really like them and had to see for myself. It is a great coil too, but I went back to the X-8 again as I felt it was a better coil for me. It is hard to find a used X-8 but see a few used 6X8 SEF coils for sale.

I like it better than the Sun ray X-8. Seems to separate better and get same depth. I LOVE this coil!
