I had to get out for awhile it was sunny but cold ground not to bad frooze only a few inches in the field , i wanted to try this Coin Search coil 8" for a real hunt and it proved it self i was in AM got a good signal and flipped over to Disc. at first it nulled i said iron but i tryed a slower swing over the target and got a nice sweet sound plus a 178 on my meter then another null ? i decided to dig anyway PP said it was not to deep i rasied to coil about 4 inches and lost all signal so i dug it , sure enough about 5 inches down i hit iron it looks like a shell fragment the field is very very old back to the 1640,s , i ran my search probe again in the hole and got another signal it was a silver 1834 Bust Dime in pretty good shape ill take it  I was very impressed how the 8" coil seperated the 2 targets only a few inches apart in the same hole this is a good coil for a 17 year,s old but brand new when i bought it last week still in the box , all i did was seal the coil wire connection with RTV Silicone . Sometimes we can find a really good deal . The hunt did not last to long COLD bbrrrrrr ..... HH Jim

That's a nice dime Jim. How do you like hunting in AM? Never tried it myself.
Gary
Gary in AM i can hear all targets under my coil i start out with Sens just out of auto , if iam not sure about one ill switch over to disc. just to make sure , in AM sometimes deep iron will trick you and sound sweeter then shallow iron plus AM i think gives just that extra inch or two in depth that can just catch a deep target then you can flip over to check and need be adjust your sens in disc. . Jim that is a beauty. Ive never found a bust coin, hopefully one day in the future I will find some.

Nice coil indeed, now you know what alot of us have said about those.

A slower swing speed lets you get in between stuff better:detecting:

Lets hope thats the beginning of many to come with that coil.

Great to hear you seen what going slow can do in disc and why I have said many times before that by going slow and sometimes real slow you will hear those good signals in with trash and some that are deeper many have missed by going too fast. I don't use AM myself as I find going slow and listening close to the tones change and then working them I can do better than AM, but that is me and my type of hunting I do. In all metal I get so many little signals it would take me forever to check each one out and get any distance.
You now see whey many of us that have used the Sovereign likes the 8 inch Coinsearch so much that Minelab first made for the Sovereigns. You also seen what going real slow with the Sovereign can do in disc.

Good luck and we are expecting to see more great finds with your 8 inch coinsearch.

Rick

That's an excellent find. Only one bust dime for me, 1835, and in far worse shape than that one you found.

WOW that baby is a beauty! Thanks for sharing - Jim

sweet find,, i aint never found one of those bust coins either..... usually when i get that iron and brass signal at the same time it is almost always an old corroded shotgun shell.... congrats....

It might take me a little longer to hunt now but it is worth it come on Spring !!! Jim

Awesome find Jim! The 8" Coinsearch coil was the all time favorite coil for me when I had my Sovereigns back in the day. It's actually 7 1/4" like the other Sov 8" coils. Even though it may measure 8" on the outside, the inner windings are smaller inside with insulation along the outside edge, hence the great separation of this coil. The only coil I've liked as much was the 10" Tornado coil. I saw the post when you bought this coil. Hang on to it! It's PRICELESS in my book and I'm jealous you got one brand new like that. The last one I bought brand new was in the late 90's or maybe 2000 from a batch that David from Dixie Detectors had. Good luck with it, I know I found more with that coil than any other. Aw wow, impressive! It's so nasty cold you really got rewarded for your effort.
