Minelab 305 or Fisher F4

With V-Flex the 305 will be more immune to EMI interference. The F4 will have more TID numbers, if that is an accuracy advantage and they do not jump around more?

When making your choice also look at the different 'coil choices' of each machine as a deciding factor.

I asked the same question to many dealers about 6 months ago . Almost all said 305 I think one said f4 . Fishers have some good machines , but the f4 is a f2 with a few more features. F5 different story. I would get a used 70 and not look back.

If you think that you will in the future get an Explorer, Etrack or Safari then 305 for sure. Ability to change Frequency would push me to the 305, Of course I have a 705 so I am biased. Love the Minlabs

The F4 has a more refined numeric discrimination than the 305. The 305 has a volume control and the ability to have a tone for each of it's 12 notches, which are features I like. The F4 doesn't have a volume control and is fairly loud. The 305 uses 4 AA batteries while the F4 uses 2, 9 volt batteries. I haven't personally used the F4 so I can't tell you too much about it, but it does have it's fans, just like the 305. Ask over on the Fisher Forum to get some input from F4 uses and hopefully you can get a bit better insight into it. Personally, I think you will be happy with either unit. A lot will depend on personal preferences as to what will suite you best.

I went through the same process of elimination about 12 months ago. I have an X Terra 70, but not the 305. I was deciding on which simpler (cheaper)machine to try...I ultimately chose the f4 and am not sorry about my decision. Several reasons I chose it. I had not tried a fisher machine before, but have a couple of Bounty hunters with 4 different sized coils. All these coils can be used on the F4. In addition, the F 4 comes with a 11"D coil which is great in the wide open spaces. I am not sorry I bought the F 4 and it has been great. It also has manual ground balance which I like, but it does not have digital readout in all metal mode.
Whichever machine you decide to buy, you will have a good machine.
