Minelab 1000 settings

NO disc, volume full, threshold so you can barely hear it when it first comes on, sensitivity..... until it becomes unstable/nulls alot/or falses on the swing..... then back it off a bit. IF you use PP mode like i do..... turn it to auto then back just after yoiu hear it click. PP is a great way to hunt the surf where you can get a floating coil causing falsing. Note i said set the threshold for the tone when the machine is first turned on.... its the weakest tone for most peoples hearing. I dont recommend setting it below that where it goes silent, it tends to break up the signals more and on a weak target you just might walk right over it thinking its mineral falsing.

Hi,
Ive had my first Excalibur about a week. Everyone recommends turning the volume to full. Is the reason for this to hear a faint signal from a deep target better? My only problem with that is that Im somewhat concerned about the extremely loud blast to my eardrums when I hit a very shallow target which is much more often. Am I the only person who finds full volume to be too loud?

Once you get use to it you will hear them coming...if you hunt in discriminate only, do 3/4 volume..but if you hunt in PP do the full.

Im old i guess i dont mind full volume while i concentrate on weak signals and in PP its not as bad IMO. Reducing volume on the Xcal modulates the tones of a target. the lower you go the more you can tell a weak or the size of a target. Turning it to full volume basicly makes all targets have their fullest volume. What happens if you go to low is those small or deep targets get lost in mineralization and can be over looked, break up, or just plain filtered out.

I find volume is dictated by headphones somewhat. Stock units are soft to my hearing, but GGAs are better, louder and I imagine some others are louder yet.
