Mine lab Excalibur Remote Pinpoint Switch

Thanks to "Mel Parker" for the the information he sent on this mode, and the postings on the forum of "BB Sailor", both very inspiring................This Is Something Minelabs should be offering on the New Excalibur's. This is my First time and I was a Little shaky, but was not all that hard. Hardest parts were, pulling the main board, soldiering the connections, and putting the board back in, which took a few tries. Main thing is to line up the knobs, wear the wrist ground. Lotta details I left out, but grease here up and put her back together, and It makes detecting a hole new experiences with the excal. This is a mode but I tried to keep the video more like "whats inside of the Excalibur", the second round, parts are in will be more of a how to......................hope you enjoy ........Obn/joe/tim

cool! cant wait for round two!!!!!!

That is Sexy.....It's sad when the manufacturer of high end electronics cant keep up technologically with its customer base and their ingenuity.Tell me something pards, do you set the selection by adjusting the Disc/PP knob? That is to say, can you also hunt in Disc and then push button PP or opposite that hunt in pinpoint and then button Disc, depending on which way you leave the Disc/PP knob set? or is it dedicated in Pinpoint only with Disc on the button. I hope that mess just made sense.....

Olbeechnut that is awsome, I'm picking up my excal tomorrow which is identical to yours ...so you are hunting in the pinpoint mode and then flicking the switch to discriminate nice...I want to add this onto mine aswell where did you get the instructions for this mod can you share it please ....that is a fantastic video cant wait for part 2

Hopefully one day Minelab will provide this feature on their Excals. Once you have used it you will never go back to letting go of your scoop and having reach over and turn a knob. Looking forward to part two.

OBN,
Excellent mod and demo.

Thanks,
Steve

Dig, I kept the inside connections simple, when the knob is on PP on the Pod, I can control both modes. (Open) But once I adjust the knob to disc, it closes the contacts and overrides the toggle switch.

Thanks Guys on the good feed back, I learned alot on this mode and that I need to take more pictures near the end..so the second round will be a better, more on the details how to and will post on the modification forum.

Funny thing about using it at the beach, it is so quick the detector has no time to get out of one mode into the other electronically and the tones can become connected. So I have to get more of a rhythm on the swing n switch. Plus, something else I noticed, and this is at this beach where almetal is several inch's deeper, I started off detecting in Pp, got a target, switched to disc, it nulls, then the buzz...but here and there I would get a target that was giving me a signal in Pp, and silent in discriminate (which I thought was a null) and I would keep going........took me about 5 targets to figure out what was going on.., but I was forgetting that I have to clear away sand to get a signal in discriminate...How quick we forget with a little change of reaching over and switching the knob. I'm think...round two the next handle will have the switch on the back 3/4 to the top of the handle so I can use my thumb to do the work? Any Idea's, I have the two IP68's, one is a push button on n off the other is a toggle on n off.

Thanks for watching............joe/tim/obn

HI ...I have started the mod on my excal ..just wondering where did you feed the wires through into the clear case ..Im trying to feed the wires into the clear case and just wondering how you did yours...any pictures would be great help thanks.

Thanks for the pictures oldbeechnut....the problem I had with mine is the end cap had no space to be drilled because the little circuit that has been moulded into it pretty much got in the way,the other thing is I like the S shaft so I used an old battery pod to mount the switch into...I took out the actual pinpoint switch and shaft from the barrel and fed the wire in from there and silliconed it in place ,but at any time the whole mod can be removed and turned back to original easily...anyway it works great...Thanks Guys

Will be doing a few modes this fall and winter, Bscoop is making me some Pod, solid endcaps so there will be no problems with running two pigtail stress relieve cables out of it instead of taking a chance of using the stock endcap. Just shot me a Pm later in the fall. Got enough footage for a second video, but it's almost my vacation time, 4 weeks vacation in two months....another winter project................joe/tim
