That is good advice. Bury (or better still) find a coin at what you consider to be the normal depth you would expect to be finding targets. Use your regular swing speed because you will usually default to it while hunting. So... swing over the target and adjust the ground filter until you get the best audio response. Next adjust the recovery delay to see if you can get it even better, then recheck the ground filter, if you change it... recheck the recovery delay. Of course I am assuming that you have already gotten a good ground balance. I have not tried it yet but I like the idea of using GB method posted by Mike Hillis and Tony in Orlando, using locktrac and offset to adjust the GB slightly positive.
I find it easier to learn without tone ID. I like shifted tone or custom tone with certain ranges giving me certain tones.
I have also had to reload some programs from the library because I tweaked several different things and made it into an aggrivation machine. I think it is good to use stock programs and lower the sensitivity until everything is stable and then hunt... unless you are not getting the depth that you should get. In that case, if you cannot figure it out, you need your dealer to help you. There are SO many different things you can change on the V3/V3i that it can really be confusing trying to figure out what to do and it is easy to overlook something simple.
Go to the White's website and find the forums there. There are different people posting there... not better people, just different people and maybe you'll read something that gives you an idea. There is a V3 forum at XXXonly "dot com" too.
Good luck figuring it out.
