Military TDY MD ideas

I was wondering if there are any military out there who take their MD with them on TDY flying either commercial or organic. I'm a National Guardsman and every year I get the opportunity to go TDY for anywhere from a 2 week period to 6 weeks depending on where I go. I usually fly a mix of organic (C-130H) and commercial and I may have an opportunity to go to Antarctica this winter with stops in LA and Christ Church, NZ. So my big question is for those who travel with their detector, how do you transport it on your trip when flying? Did you build a custom hard case or buy one? Also going through customs are there issues with locks on the case etc? I'd like some ideas since I'm hoping to take mine with me this year on the off chance I can go to the beach while I'm in LA and hit some parks/beach in NZ (and no detecting in Antarctica I know!).

Hi,
if you

I bet a fellow can get a good old Samsonite non-descript, and not worth stealing hard case at Goodwill or a garage sale and then take some foam from the Hobby lobby, and custom cut it for your rig?
Where theres a will, theres a way...even if a guy had to have one FedExed in to your location after your arrival, to avoid all those issues?

Too bad about not detecting Antarctica...I bet theres gold nuggets there big as a babies head laying around all over the place!

I think I'm going to hit up some garage sales and look for a bow case or something that will be suitable for my Safari. Thanks for the ideas guys :). Also mudpuppy, you are not kidding! After I was in Antarctica last year I read an article about how it is the richest continent on earth for diamonds and gold and that the prospecting treaty expires in 2049 or something like that. It made me really itch to see what I could find lol.

Grab a pellican case from where you work. If youre Sq is anything like mine there'll be some spares. Break down your detector and put it in there. Im headen to TN on a TDY tomorrow but Im driving but Im still breaking it down and putting it in a soft case.[pre]

I've been eyeballing some pelican cases at work lol but everyone plays by the rules and would report me taking it if they saw me with it later. I'm just going to have to buy one I guess. Good luck hunting in TN!
