Military Shell Casing

This past weekend I went to upstate New York for a family reunion. I took along the AT Pro just in case I had some spare time. My wife's family owns some property on the Racquette River about 50 miles east of Fort Drum so I decided to detect a little there. When I pulled this shell casing out from about 4" deep I could not figure it out. All the casings I ever saw before had the caliber stamped on the end. A little research found this to be a military round manufactured at the Franklin Arsenal (Philadelphia) in 1940. Interesting find. I've lucked out with military items this year considering I haven't been looking in areas where I'd expect to find them. I'm attaching my military finds for this year so far.

It's the rear half of a standard 30.06 ball round--the round fired in the 03 Springfield,Garand,BAR,and 30 cal Browning machine gun.
