Crossed rifles are the insignia of the infantry. Yours look like Enfields?
 
rifles are british lee enfields -- might be a british military item WW1 OR WW2--- the enfeilds were used from early 1900;s till after WW2. hope that helps ***the enfield was .303 cal bolt action*** good but rather heavy old rifle had a old WW2 model 4
