Mikie, Here is that flood control dam from

up on my end of the river/lake. In that google shot I put up the other day, you could see the airport. This dike runs all along the side of it.
Airport-dam water control on the other...This runs for along ways and runs to the main dam and spillway... I will show you this end first...
This is at the bottom of the hill I live on....A lot of people use the top of this for walking and biking, bird watching, plane watching as you are above them as they come in...On the lake side of it, good bass, pickerel, some pike, perch, etc. On the land areas they stock it with pheasents in the fall...Can also horse back there...

#1 is start of dam and showing Windham Airport.

#2 is same but with the airport light showing. The locals like the planes coming in at night and they turn on all the blue lights along the runway. Looks pretty neat. Don't take much to amuse the country bumpkins here.....

#3 is actually the lake side but its really a river. This will come up within a few feet of the top of this in spring time or major rains and it comes FAST... In another group you will see where the road is normally and overnight its gone.......

#4 is me taking a rest after walking back from the end. Hot today and have a storm coming in....

#5 is a shot of 2 swans that were way down on edge below this dam where I was sitting. Lots of them in here a times...

#6 is more of the water side and another feeder stream. Lot of great little coves for fishing, or just paddling around....Big body of water for this area and runs for along ways...

Posted these to show where it starts, but the other pictures will show what its all ties into and holds back....This dike runs for miles.
Yet its the most unused state park in Connecticut they claim....

This is really a pretty area. These just show the entrance but other pictures will show the beauty of the area....

#1 is entrance....back side of dam.....that big stainless door takes you down inside the dam. There is a power plant
down inside but its never proved to useful...

#2 just a close up of the grounds...

#3 shows the back side of the dam and at the far side is the end of the dike I was on at the dam itself...about a 2.5 mile walk....
Royal there are 5 geocaches in that area, 3 right on the dike itself...stupid mico's.......but I found them......

#4 was a quick shot of the sign the put up telling about it. Not sure if this will be big enough to read.

#5 control slots to regulate the flow of water down stream......

#6 This is the house the care taker gets for working here. Pretty nice home....

This area of the lake and for about 3 miles up stream was all farms.....all in the lake now....

#1This the dam itself. Water has never gone over the top of it but has been 2 feet away from it.
guess they did a good job of planning it.......The trash system keeps a lot of the big tree's away
from the intakes. They go out as often as needed and drag them away...

#2 is more of the lake.river.. My house is under those 3 orange dots in the sky.....

#3 this is the down hill side of the dam and pretty much what this town was about. It was a clock factory.
Beautiful stone building and I will show it to you in next picture....Good trout fishing in here also....

#4 Old stone Clock factory.. Hence the piece in the tower.....Was good detecting here for a long time....

#5 this is about 2 miles up stream. These roads end up under water by about 10 to 12 feet in the spring time
or heavy rains. Its happens fast....As often as I've seen it, it still amazes me how fast it happens....

#6 All this is decent fishing, but lots of rules in CT. The more people, the more rules......

But things said and done, I really like it here. Not fast paced... Cost of living is less here than elsewhere
in CT. Closer to New York you get, the higher it gets..... They call this the quiet corner of CT. That means not much industry
for jobs so you will travel for the decent paying ones as a rule.... Still a little bit of Old New England left up this way...

Works for me......

I do not see people or boats. I would like to sink a line in that lake. Kelley (Texas) :)

I assume these photos were taken in the summer because of all the green vegetation, leaves on trees? Kelley (Texas) :)

a beautiful place for sure. I remember you posting pics of this area before, not far from your home.
I still distrust any dam though:shrug:

They brought in big Northern Pike and released them. At the bait shop I've seen pictures of them. I fish it on occasion but mostly the wife and I just paddle around on it in the canoe... Lot of nice little coves to fish... Pretty lake for sure....

Or I used to would be more accurate. I watch them do it now. A lot of cross country skies go there in winter also..... I think what may
close it off or why the shun it is they don't let anyone swim in it....

Geo

I marked it so they were to small then.... should be fine now....yupe right under the red line on skyline....

went down and took these yesterday... If you look on the one with the information about the lake, you can see here and I in the reflection...

down near the Fontana Dam--http://www.nps.gov/grsm/planyourvisit/fontanadam.htm--years ago during a drought and the water was down 70 ft on the face of the dam. It was incredible. You could see the normal waterline all around the lake but there was sure a lot of water missing :(
