Mike Moutrays Old Explorer Programs

Well, I just did a 360 and returned to an Explorer. It has been two years since I last swung an Explorer. I can't seem to remember Mike's program. I used these programs with great success, but I lost the settings. Does anyone have them? I can remember an iron mask 10. I never really liked the digital mode on the XS, but the crosshair and tones told everything I needed to know. Once I got the hang of the Explorer, I hardly ever dug trash. I am a coin hunter and I dug some of the deepest coins of my time in the hobby. I have had most every high end detector since I got rid of the Explorer and I guess it is time to see if I can rekindle the romance. I really would appreciate a place where I can get some of these programs. Hopefully, I will start to remember things when I get it in my hands. thanks in advance. R.L.

I think it was IM-10, conduct sounds, fast on/off depends on the type of site... how many targets, deep=on, variability=8, gain=6 and manual sensitivity.

Bill, thanks for the info. Those settings ring a bell. Can't wait to get it out. I dug a couple of large cents that were over 12 inches deep with his program. Thanks again. R.L.

Like riding a bicycle one never forgets..Mike has some excellent simple setups that work. Many go overboard and throw simplicity to the winds...Might check Jim Vokes and Jim Yates home pages also....certainly big , bulky and heavy but the best guts in the business...Good luck with your new toy...

This is the link you want. There's a lot of gold all through this site, but pay close attention to the first two links..."Mike Moutray Explorer Screen Shots" and "Charles Rock Solid Setup". Both are very good. And the Charles setup is pretty much exactly what I've been running but I took him up on raising my gain by 1 to 7 and my variability from 8 to 10. I really found his tips especially good though, after the actual program settings. Check it out...

Many like to copy others patterns, but I feel you have to set it up what works the best for you. The 2 top guys around here run different settings and they all do very well. The best guy runs a pattern with just the top right open using the medium cursor in edit mode will open it up about a inch, then went to the learn mode and learned a nickle using the medium cursor too. He has been running this all season so far and has over 160 silver and 50 some IH pennies. he runs 24-28 manual sensitivity, valibility at 10, gain at 7 with conductivity tones with deep on and keeps the coil as close to the ground as he can. I got him setting his iron mask at -16 to check any of the iffy ones he gets with this pattern and he notice he got many more now checkin the iffy ones in iron mask. The other guy runs a iron mask at a -4, Varibilty at 10, sensitivity at 24 either manual or auto depending on where he is at and he also runs deep only on. This guy has over 90 silver so far and 38 IH. Both of these guy have got a silver dollar this year so far.
The secret is they know their Explorers well and know what the detector is telling them with the setting they use. Both also have dug dimes over 10 inches and quarters over 12 inches as they know what a weak signal sounds like. The second one I hunted with and I wanted to hear a few of his deep ones. I have to tell you I have dug nails that sounded better than the 6 merc he dug that day that were 10 plus inches down.Like I say is getting a setting that works for you and use it as it may be differnt than anyone elses, so what works for you may not work for others and what works for other may not work for you.
