So what are the big improvements going to the AT Pro from the ACE 250 besides going in water , also the whites spectra V3I looks pretty spiffy maby not $1500 spiffy,im just wondering what more ill get out of a higher tech machine thanks Z

The ATP has more distinct tones. A VDI. Tone Roll, Iron Audio, Variable Tone Audio, etc. 6 modes, 3 Standard and 3 Pro. Adjustable frequency to help out near EMI and other machines, which I have only needed twice. Iron Discrimination.

Watch the videos on Youtube. That will help you decide. I have a Friend with a V3i, and we hunt together frequently. He gets the same depth. He does get more coins, but that's all he digs. I dig questionable targets. He's often scared to use the V3i because it is so expensive and uses his MXT or a fisher instead.

I have an ACE 350 and it is similar to the ATP in that when you lock onto a coin you know it. Nickles are a mid-tone though, they are a high tone on the 350. The vdi just adds to it by giving a number.

There is NO comparison between the AT-Pro and the ACE 250...the Pro is light years ahead in PRO Mode. I don't care for the V3i...it is SLOW and HEAVY, as well as complicated to learn.

I speak from experience...I own (3) AT-Pro's, a XP Deus, a White's V3i, and a Fisher F2. I have also owned but sold a Fisher CZ-21, and a Minelab CTX-3030. If I could only own 1...it would be the AT-Pro hands down...second would be the XP Deus, but the AT-Pro is more versatile out of the box and much cheaper!

Plain and simple the ATP is like a 250 on steroids BUT imagine this! No more bell tones if you don't want. That's right mate you can make the bell tone GO AWAY...........yippee! Sorry I have had wayyyyy to much coffee. Seriously though whilst the Ace 250 is an amazing little machine the ATP will open up your window of opportunities to explore with no boundaries. Pro mode is Godzilla mode enabling you to either customize your own personal setting, pro zero mode for deep relics and pro coin mode. The iron audio feature is a favourite for me and a great tool to have which has helped me soooooo many times its not funny.....its priceless to have. I will keep saying it, you just can't beat the price and features on the ATP.
Cheers!

Just from a practical point of view or IMHO. You got good advice already here. I have used the V3i since Oct. 2011 after 25+ years using Whites top detectors. I recently picked up an AT Pro for its simplicity and versatility. I think you'd be happier with the ATP since you are coming off the 250. Besides the weather / waterproof feature is a huge help. The money you save will buy you a scoop and other equipment that you may need.
The V3i is a top performer for those who take the time to really learn it and the time to set it up for the area they are using it in. The V is my #1 go to detector, but that's me.
Good luck.

I got both the V3i and the AT Pro. Each one has their own characteristics, features and benefits. Each machine, for me has found an enormous amount of jewelry, my favorite being the gold variety. I must say the AT Pro has found gold jewelry in a place that makes it impossible with the V3i and that is in the water. The V3i is not water proof. I wouldn't even take it to salt water beaches. The salt spray is nasty stuff, and can damage or destroy a detector in short order here in northern California. That is the logic I used on the wife to purchase the AT Pro. I can't say the AT Pro is reserved only for water use. Using the combination of coils, 8.5X11, 5X8 and Sniper available from Garrett make it a formidable detector in any price range. The V3i also has different coils available. Preset programs are set a little too hot for my liking, but it is essentially (contrary to popular belief) and turn on and go machine. Different configuration of coils and adjustments along with it's unique sweep analysis of the signal and other features, makes it a very usable detector in just about any conditions. For my personal situation it made sense to get one of each and I have not regretted that decision. Any other V3i and AT Pro owners care to comment? What ever the decision, it's yours alone to make. Good luck and happy hunting.

Thank you all, the info was great i think i know what im going to get when i can, and save money too, I love detecting- im not a die hard because of my back, but with my ace 250 and about 1 1/2 hrs hunt no less than 20-30 coins and other trinkets so when i move on up AT PRO thanks again Z

At Pro rocks just found my second gold ring with it today. Ace 250 doesn't even come close to this beast. I've had manny detectors mxts dfxs Tesoro mine labs
And this At simply toasts them price wise hunting terrain wise all weather wise. Love the dam thing . Garrett's got a winner.
