Might be my new favorite find

I was swinging my F70 at the park that keeps on giving to me when I got a 63 zinc signal that kept bouncing to a 82 quarter signal. I wasn't going to dig it with the bouncing, but something told me to dig it. I pulled this skeleton of a pistol from a 8 inch depth. As you can see from the pics the hand grips, revolver and hammer are missing. I scanned the entire area surrounding the pistol to try and retrieve the missing parts but I didn't get any signals at all. I brought this piece home and dropped it in my electrolysis tank for 3-4 hours to try to get some markings to appear, but was unable to. Someone has told me that they think it is a British Bulldog revolver (the same type of gun used to assassinate President Garfield) it is very similar on most parts of the pic he sent me, but there are a couple of differences that I noticed. Attached is a before and after pic from the electrolysis process. Any help with an ID would be appreciated.

Interesting. I'm surprised you didn't find the rest of it as it seems in a pretty good condition overall. Any idea how old it could be/date of manufacture ? At 8 inches, it must have been there for some time or... somebody dug some dirt to hide it more likely.

That's definitely a unique find, got no clue on what kind of pistol it is. Maybe a local gun dealer could help with identification or even some of these pawn shops could help. Keep us posted on what you find.

After researching this most of today, I think I might have found a match. Let me know what you guys think please.

Also, do you guys think that I should try to clean this up with a wire wheel, real fine grit sandpaper, a cleaner of some sort, or should I leave it be?
