Midwest gold refineries?????

I have sent gold to midwest and had them tell me that a heavy gold chain i sent in was junk( I had it checked 14 k)23 grams
and did'nt get it back i called and was told it had steel pins and picked up with a magnet? and if you asked for it back when you sent in the gold that thay would send it back
thay won't if you don't ask first in writing MY BAD WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN!!!!
still use midwest but i check everything and send it in 10k only/14k only/18k only so i know just what i sent in last time thay were within a few dollars of what i had for a price
so i still use them ,but if i get the shaft again thay won't be getting my gold anymore

Thanks for the feedback. As always, it is appreciated.

You're right on. I sent all 14K and they did use .55 and I recall Gary saying thats what they find 14k usually ends up even when melted. My order was over and ounce and they did not melt it just bought it.

Just to clarify. I have been extremely satisfied with every transaction I've done with them. I will use them again, hopefully sooner than later.

I know this is a old post but I had the same experience with midwest. They shorted me twice and would not return my call or get back with me. ON JEWELRY. I had sold jewelry to a local guy for years until he passed and he pad me 80% of spot and we always came up with the same numbers. Midwest Shorted me 105.00 the first time and 80.00 the second. Will never use them. Once the gold in melted down they have the final say and you have no proof. I was shorted the first time and gave them one more shot because soooo many guys said they were treated fairly. Either they just like to screw me over or most of you don't know how to calculate the value of your gold. Now I list my stuff on ebay and put the calculated 90% spot price as my reserve and I list it on the add and let the buyer decided. I generally get more than spot because many of my rings have stones.

This is who I deal with folks. Have been dealing with them for 5 years. Always right on the nose with the check. They post on the front page of their web site what they pay per DWT for each Karat grade of gold. 14Kt is $29.29 per DWT right now or $585.00 per OZT on the low end (0-5 OZT) and on the high end $635.60 Per OZT (50 OZT +). Check it out. Would like to hear opinions.

To each his own.

I find that one must read the fine print and that its all in the details. The last ring I sold to them had a "single piece" pricing arrangement I was unaware of. It was there in black and white, had I read it. And it favored them, not me, since they are essentially a wholesaler who charge extra to handle my one-off trinkets.

I reckon it this way:

I put batteries in my detector and I spent a few minutes in the fresh air. In return, Midwest offered a ready place to dispose of my item and I got well over $350 for my time.
That is VALUE right there, people. Serious value. It so good, in fact, that we cant see it when it bites us in the face.

I can calculate spot prices all day long and come up with all sorts of favorable figures to credit me. That's the same as valuing my house over market and then wondering why there isnt a parade of eager buyers flocking to purchase it. Its my fault if it doesn't sell, not the buyers or the market at large - since I didnt do the research ahead of time.

If you want retail prices, then the classifieds or ebay are your markets. I applaud anyone who understands that.

I DID notice they gave resale value for stones, and I think I remember reading that Midwest doesn't.

I just wanted to let everyone know that there are no hidden EXTRA charges. None at all with usgoldbuyers. If you have a good quality scale weight your gold each karat separately multiply by what they say they are paying per karat. Add your individual totals and that's EXACTLY what your check will be. Call them and let them know your shipment is on it's way and they lock your price in if you want to so you don't take any chances of gold going down and loosing money while it is being shipped. Of course if you lock it in and gold goes up your price does NOT go up as it is locked in. Also usgoldbuyers pays all fees for shipping and insurance. They will transfer the money to your Pay Pal account or directly to your bank account for a fee otherwise they send you a check that you normally receive no more than 3 days after they receive your shipment.

Hey Lesdean,

My experience was EXACTLY the same as yours. Wont ever use them again.
