Mid level tone detectors , which one ?

Joel-Winnipeg

New member
Debating getting a mid level entry detector.
Two choice selection I'm looking into are the
Tesoro Golden Umax and the Whites M6.
Has any one used both or are there any other
considerations that would fit this category ?
What kind of depth can be expected with these
units ?
Have read the info on these but would be
interested in finding any ones personal use
of these machines.

I have yet to order mine, but have done a ton of research and opinion polls on the Tejon. It has variable tone you can adjust to suit yourself.

Go to the Tesoro forum and ask about it.

IMHO the M6 would be deeper. The Golden only has 4 tones whereas the M6 I believe has 7. That said, I have a Whites Prizm 6T which has 9 tones and I very seldom use it in that mode because to me it's just too confusing with that many. That said, if it WAS MY CHOICE, I'd probably go with the Golden because 4 tone zones should be adequate. Certainly less confusing to me, at least. Just my observation and opinion, others most likely will vary.

Single or 7 tone, ground trac with lock, salt beach setting that actually works, best build quality going, simplicity and a huge array of coil backup.....the m6 is a lot of detector for the money.Add to this great depth and excellent ability in the trash and you have one of the best if not the best mid price detectors available today.

Joel,

I've owned the Golden uMax and its a good machine, but you need to be careful.

I found myself getting lulled into only digging the high tones because I knew they were almost certainly coins (sometimes it was a crushed aluminum can).

The mid tones were iffy and I usually ignored them.

In short, I got lazy.

My trash count went way down, but so did all my jewelry and relic finds.

Its an easy trap to fall into, even if you don't see yourself as the kind of person who would do that. I didn't see myself that way either.

So be warned and happy hunting.

I used an M6 once. By the weight factor alone I'd take the Golden.

Some say the M6 goes deeper, but you need to talk to someone who used both extensively before you make up your mind on that count.

I'm getting the Golden because it's a couple of hundred less. I'm not that concerned about depth, but I read some coins were found at 8". The tones on the M6 are only about 4 if you get rid of the iron. It's an awesome looking detector and has the g/b that the Golden doesn't. Man, don't start me thinking about it again. I would love the M6 myself-highly recommended by Monte. You may have just ruined my day.:crylol:

Thanks for the info.
Still up in the air about the choice.
Sorry about that Slingshot:sadwalk: with the clad and gold you'll
find with the Golden :detecting:you'll be able to get the
M 6 sooner than you think:thumbup:
