Mid 1600's Scottish Coin From Central Illinois

One of the things I love about metal detecting is that the most unusual things sometimes come out of the ground. I was hunting a local park here in Central Illinois a couple weeks ago and found this hammered Scottish Charles 1st twopence that was coined sometime between 1642 and 1650. I've dug quite a few foreign coins before but this was a first for me. [attachment 247069 DSC00211coin.jpg][attachment 247070 DSC00203coin.jpg]

Now if only it could tell it's story!

I'd like that coin to reveal it's story as well! Congratulations on a very old coin! Thanks for the pictures.

Any type of 1600's dated coin is a fantastic find - congrats ! :beers:

Hi fellow Illinoisan,
Wow.........unbelievable find!!, I am still trying to get my mind around how such an oldie would have been lost in the USA. Lots of Scottish Heritage (Lincoln's ancestors were Scottish) in the USA. Anyway, enjoy your great and historic find.

Hi badjim

The coin was about 5 inches deep up close to a large tree. Its a copper coin. VDI numbers were bouncing a bit but if I remember correctly it was mostly around 11/12 - 40.
