Micro Jewelry Hunt No 2 w/ 6x8 SEF Coil

Well my quest for gold is netting smaller items with this amazing 6x8 SEF coil. The stud earring is maybe white gold with gem. Not sure what kind of stone. It registered just a hair below nickel on the smartfind and was an inch down in the wood chips.

My guess on that one is SS.... it also has a low tone. If its gold it should say on the stem. About the best you can get with the ML multi freq machines is .3 grams on gold. Even say the DFX which is a dual freq doesnt do as well unless ran in say 15K.

Oh well, maybe you are right on the SS. Do you think my Vaquero would make a better gold finding tool overall than the Explorer? I just hate not having a little more information like on the Explorer screen.

Good news is that there is actually some stamping on the stem. Bad news is that my old eyes and my crappy magnifying glass can't read it very well. I do see a "K"
but can't read the numbers. Will be getting better magnifying glass. Writing is so tiny, LOL. How the heck they can stamp that small is beyond me.

OK, compared the Vaquero to the Explorer SE on a gold earring backing. The SE did not see it at all. The Vaquero picked it up at 2 inches. Not bad. So I answered my own question. Both detectors however picked up the gold earring I found at approximately 3.5 inches. Oh yeah, the stone is amethyst.

Nice find.
Personally I like the extra info provided by the ML but those T's really bang on the small gold.
It's all about making tradeoffs were comfortable with,
Or just do the honorable thing and have a wall full of detectors!

My next detector will be a water machine. I'm thinking Tesoro Tigershark since I would be hunting the Michigan beaches.

good choice on the fresh water machine. The problem with MICRO gold hunting is..... anything the Exp/multi freq machines miss.... unless its a chain, the $10 or less its worth isnt what im looking for out there. Even earring studs aint worth a lot. Some of us just let them go thru the scoop and move on. The Exp is a VERY good beach machine. I switched to a Sov simply because i prefer simple and on the beach the only thing i need to know is it iron or a shallow bottle cap. Everything else you best not find a reason NOT to dig it. Targets change with any depth. Also the Sov has a little longer and better separated tones at the loner end.... at the expense of recovery thou.
