Miami Beach Hunting?

Hi,

On rare occasions I get to Miami and might be along my MXT if it's worthwhile and allowed to detect the beaches. My questions:

1. We stay at the Sherry Fontenac Hotel on Collins Avenue which is on the beach. Is it legal to metal detect this beach?

2. Is this a good beach to detect? I won't have wheels so won't be able to go anywhere I can't walk.

3. Any recommendations as to technique? I'll have a White's MXT if I bring it.

Thanks in advance for replies.

Rudy,

Thanks for the info. Did you have any luck? Any recommendations on where to go or what settings? I'm a beach detecting rookie, also a coins and jewelry detecting rookie.

Thanks.

Just a suggestion. If you don't have a pair of knee pads, pick a pair up.They only cost about $9 a pair at Home Depot. If you want to preserve your knees for retirement use them when land hunting.

Good luck

Yes, I found about $29 in clad, a ton of trash, a sterling silver ear ring and a 14K engagement ring.

I had high hopes for South Beach, but it didn't pan out for me. Most of my finds there were memorial pennies. I stuck around the beaches between 40th and 52nd st. Mostly from the surf line to the high tide mark.

Rudy,

Thanks for the info, I'm looking forward to giving it a try with my MXT whenever I make it out there again.

Snorkeled years ago in the clear water with a Garrett XL500 PI off of the beach. No problems then, but that was a LONG time ago. I do remember rocks.
