Ex cal 1000----First of all thank you all for such good information on this machine. I am slowly learning. I search the pesos in all metal. They are made with two metals. Is there any one that has got a system worked out for them. The big problem is bottle caps. Also is there an other machine for the dry sand that you adjust for them. Thanks for the help

i might sugguest you get the ear cd for the excalibur..itll help you id the different tones for the different metals..its worth the money to have..
then just practice with the excalibur, youll learn to know when its a bottle cap...
i set my machine to the following.
excalibur 2 1000
disc 1
sens 6-8
vol 3/4
threshold is a nice steady tone but not to loud as to miss the faint changes..these are the deep targets..
in am mode then ill check in disc to see if it nulls..if any tone ill dig..
hope this helps

90 percent of my hunting is on Mexican beaches. I hunt with an Elite, GT, and am learning the CZ-21. With the Excal or any of the sovereign models you will only be able to detect the 1,2 or 5 peso coin in the all metal mode,,the 10 and 20 peso,, 50 and 20 centavo can be detected in disc mode even in high levels of disc. I hunt in all metal mode most of the time unless I am ten Peso hawking in a really tashy area. I have never tried the notch feature for the bottle caps but it might work fro some. I also know that different maker of bottls caps come in at different levels, as well the amount of uncrusted salt material will make everything iron hotter. hope this helps. I was out today 161 pesos..1 junk ring, and a sizeable amount of trash....and my first american dollar coin!!. PS due to those pesos being ferrious I doubt any machine will seperate them.

Thank you That is what i am finding out. Just checking to see if anyone had a better idea. So far i have been told twice that i need permison to hunt on the beaches. I just tell them it is federal land and it is ok. They leave. Sort of worried they are going to get the police and say i am digging turtle eggs. The land of the bottle cap. Thanks for the confirmation on the settings. Big help

Yes I have had people try at times to tell me that I can not detect. I tell them its "zona de federal" and keep detecting. did not do my peso count today but i have lots over 150, but no gold or silver today.

FishingJud,
You sold a Compass Yukon 77b on eBay, you sold it "as is", but in it, you said, "that you had found a quarter with it, but the batterys ran down, and you left them in so I could see how they were installed". Now I am not dumb, you said that because you wanted to indicate that the detector worked, just put in new batterys, and it will work. But that is not how is really is!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I just got it Friday, March 18th, 2010, and it was dead unit. On battery test, only battery pack #A had any response whatsoever on the meter, battery pack #B and #C, nothing on the meter at all. I pulled the three battery packs out, every battery is good, not dead, read out on average of 1.54VDC, and each battery pack read out 6.19VDC on average. So the voltage to the mother board is there. The mother board appears to have been shorted out and is dead and not working. I wonder how you found that quarter? There is a taped up coil connector, so there must have been a short or something, as someone must have noticed that, and taped the cable to give it solid stability...

The reason I am posting here is I have sent you two emails, through eBay, and you have not responded to my concerns. I believe you knowingly sold me a dead unit....Now I am giving you the benefit of the doubt, and I know that you will see this post, and I expect that you will address my concerns. Maybe you are busy, or in the hospital? I did not expect to pay $119.00 and receive a dead damaged metal detector, expecially when you alluded to finding a coin with it. That is considered an "implied warranty" my friend. Contact me as soon as possible, as "silence does not make my heart fonder", nor does "out of sight, mean out of mind". Right now, I am beginning to think you may have taken advantage of me?

Well, I better lighten up, perhaps there are two people, with metal detectors, using this name FishingJud, but right now I am pretty doggone mad......I know I was lied to, and I am not going to stop until I find this person who knowingly sold me a defective metal detector, and lied about its condition...

Okay, apparently it was the guy who sold me the Compass detector, and we have now spoken and are going to work it out. He said he was out of town, for three days, while I was burning around the collar.

He said he bought it at a garage sale, the former owner had died, used it briefly and found a quarter, then stored it for 3 months. When he next used it, he noticed on battery check it only had voltage for two of the three position battery checks, and he naturally assumed the batterys ran down, and sold it to me on eBay.

When I got it, it did not read voltage except on position #A, and it was way below the operating voltage. On the other two positions, it never even showed any voltage whatsoever. So I pulled the three battery packs out, and discovered every battery was 1.54VDC, and the packs output average total voltage of 6.19VDC, so it should have shown up on all three positions. The meter would not center, and I could get no sound out of it, nor any showing on an iron object, and the coil connector where it connects with the detector case, was taped up, and I figured it had an intermittent signal at one time, and most likely and broken power wire had shorted against the metal shield, and damaged the mother board. It was a natural assumption from my experience with electronics. But cleaning and wire brushing with a small brass wire brush, I managed to get power showing on the battery test, but still the unit would not run.

So I am assuming now, with what the seller told me, that the problem more likely lies in the power supply board, either a cold solder joint, or bad contact somewhere, maybe even in a switch. The fine tuning pot definitely is bad, rotates around and around and around. So will wait until I can get some more time, and after I get my computer that keeps crashing fixed, then turn my attention to the defective metal detector again...

so after speaking to the seller, I tend to believe his story, and just let my anger take me away, and I give this seller an heart felt apology. I will try and fix the metal detector if I can, if not, it is a parts machine....Hard to find Compass parts anymore.
