mr.bill, what happened to all the ole metrotechs out there, they were great for school yards. 160.00 would get the standard and another 20 would get the red head, you never had a chance if the ground was bad. It seems like everbody i knew had one, I hope i'm not dating myself. bucketboy

bucketboy, i picked up one a couple years ago for 40.00, they were the machine that opened up civil war rellic hunting in the late 6o's a early 7o's. the thing loved the brass and canonballs but wouldn't work in hot soil, the detector is a wristbreaker, but it was king of the hill back in that era, then whites came out with the coinmaster V and that kind of ended the popularity of the metrotech.

Had a Metrotech and searched the Mojave Desert with it.
Found a 5 ounce platinum nugget at a foot deep.
And a canvas bag with 200 railroad date nails at 3' deep.
Had great depth on anything quarter size or larger.
Never had any mineralization problems with it.
Great machine.

Metrotech detectors are still being made and sold directly to the public by Metrotech. Basically the same electronics and configuration except the housing is plastic and kind of square shaped instead of round. Also not as heavy, I think they're advertised as weighing 2.5 lbs, but still have the "wrist breaker" handle configuration.
