Meteorites?

Digger Bob

New member
Ok, here's a question for all you experts out there.

I think I may have found an "iron" meteorite. How can I tell? How does it respond to a coin detector as far as identifying it? Where does it land on the ID scale? What does it sound like? What are they made of, iron / nickel composite?

Here's what I have. It's heavy, magnetic, "iron shiney" where I ground a corner off. On my coin machines, it doesn't register at all, reads it like a hot rock and tunes out on my MXT. It has a rusty red and rough surface but is mostly flat and irregular shaped. I don't remember if I detected it with my GP or if it just appeared on the magnet when digging another target.

I can post some pictures if that will help.

Thanks,
Digger Bob
