Meteorite Men on Science Channel

therover

Well-known member
I was watching the Science Channel today and caught the commercial for the upcoming season of Meteorite Men and I think one of the guys had an F75 LTD in his hand. I thought the unit was camo colored I it looked like the F75 coil. I don't have one so I can't be sure.

The other guy had a large coil on and I could not see the control box ( may have been hip mounted) but based on the coil it may have been a Minelab PI...not sure).

Anyone else see the commercial ?

JC

I seen them once using a 4 wheeler to pull a homemade coil that was probably 10x10 or a little larger made from pvc.they found a buried 55gal drum in one place and in other places they did get a couple of good size meteorites.they were using a backhoe to dig holes.

is that a leach back hoe or wal-mart special:wiggle:

The show woodwizard is talking about, I believe, was "Cash and Treasures" season 2 on the Travel Channel. The backhoe was the real deal. But when you sell 90 pound meteorites at $1,000 a pound, you could afford to hire a heavy equipment operater. I believe the show was taped in Kansas.

Dear JC:

Thank you for watching our Meteorite Men promo on Science Channel. The new series begins on January 20.

Yes, you are correct, my co-host Steve is using a Fisher F-75 in camo in the trailer. It is one of Fisher's prototypes for the F-75 Limited. The new F-75 includes a special booster unit that makes it more sensitive than the standard F-75 and it comes in a very cool 75th Anniversary box. Steve and I were invited to field test two of the prototypes all through the filming of the Meteorite Men series. This is one excellent detector, and I am thrilled with it.

The larger detector I used in the promo is a customized pulse induction unit with an 18-inch coil manufactured for us in Europe.

I hope you enjoy the show, and you can learn more about us at the Meteorite Men official website and on Twitter

Best wishes and good hunting,

Geoff of Meteorite Men

Geoff,

Thanks for the response ! I will be watching for sure...my other hobby is astronomy. Good to know about the F75 LTD. Good luck in your quest for meteorites.

This guy dug up a 90 pound meteorite and said that they go for $1,000 a pound. After they cleaned it up, they took it to Dallas,Texas and were asking like $125,000 for it. No one bought it that day, but perspective buyers showed meteorites that they had bought before, that were basically slices of a meteorite. (Cut on a rock saw and polished) These people were paying 12 and 15 grand for their slices.

It was a great show while it lasted, but the Travel Channel wants to become the new food channel, and the show was dropped for tastier and sexier shows.

I'll try and do some research to see if one of these guys are the same fellow I saw on C&T's. I believe I would recognize him if I saw him again.
