Meteorite Hunters Decend On Mother Lode

After hearing a loud boom last Sunday morning, we all found that it was caused by a Volkswagon-sized meteorite that broke up after entering the atmosphere and landed in the vicinity of the South Fork of the American River. This mornings news reported that meteorite hunters are flocking into the area in search of fragments of what was believed to be a carbonacious chondrite type meteorite. Good Luck Guys...the Mother Lode is a HUGE area!

Be sure and get your share, they are high dollar.

Apparently meteorite fragments were found just a mile from Coloma, the site of Sutter's Mill where gold was first discovered back in the 1800's. One guy came from Prescott Arizona and found a few fragments in a park, of all places. Since then, there's been a small RUSH of people including school kids searching the area. This should be interesting!

people are finding fragments all the way through fernley nv. ,saw a 14 oz. one yesterday a freind found and a 1.2 pound one from fallon. we beleive it broke up over austin ,nv.

Our local papers said it broke up over Turlock Lake; less than 50 miles from here. I'm in Calaveras County and heard it explode when out watering the back yard...Fallon is just over the Sierra Range and North East of here. Pretty interesting. Some small pieces were also found in Lotus, very close to Coloma.
