Metalic coals????

A

I was searching around a no longer standing fort on coastal Maine when I got a very high coin tone, dug down about 18"s before hitting a bunch of these coal like rocks that are apparently metalic in nature, below these coals approximately 6"s further down I encountered a large flat metal object, had an edge that made it appear to be a box or an overturned base pan of some sort, however this object was far to large to remove with the time I had and far to hard to penetrate with my digging tool...
Any thoughts??
Thanks again,
Jason

...some of those bits of coal sound just like a coin and in some sites can drive you crazy.

search a beach one time just full of them. They eventually won.

...I once dug a 1/2 penny token in a patch of them. Now I'm afraid not to dig them. <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">
