metal in leg how effect a MD

I have been reading this forum to decide which MD best fits me. Will most likely buy a 250. Never MD'd before. Live in North Central Al. Question is I have a three inch steel bar in my left leg from a broken bone several weary ago. It sits right above my ankle bone. What problems will I encounter with a MD if any? "LittleOldMan"

you should be ok as long as you keep your detector far enough in front of you,i have a steel plate in my left forearm that i forget
about once in a while ,and when i check the soil over my coil with that arm the detector picks it up,you shouldn' have any problem
unless you get really close,goodluck!

It will probably pick that up at about a foot or better. I would do the shuffle walk and only sweep your coil with your right foot forward. But what ever you need to do you figure it out real quick. Get the detector and find out! Have some fun!

If you use the 250 like I do I think you will have no problems when walking and swinging the coil. BUT when it comes time to dig you will be kneeling down with the coil somewhat close to you to be able to pass hand fulls of dirt over the coil in searching for your target.
I think that will be the time when your robo-leg may set the detector off. You will soon figure out where to put the coil to keep it within arms length but still far enough away to not cause any needless bell-tones.

I have 6 pins and a plate in my Right ankle, when I am using a VLF detector I don't hardly notice it unless I step to close to the detector. With a PI Detector you have to be more careful you can here it farther away.

Thanks Bill

Hay LOM,

I've used steel toed boots several times while metal detecting.

You just learn to keep tha coil away from the steel.

Tha 250 is a good coin machine,

But I'm into gold jewelry. It's a little different. Lower conductivity.

And when you kneel to recover the target, you don't have to bring the detector back to re-sweep the hole near your metal leg if you use a good probe. The same company that made your detector builds a pretty good one. Jim

I have a steel plate and six screws in my ankle area on my right let from a broken leg injury a couple of years ago, and never noticed any issues with it (aside from MY balance sucks since the break). I have scanned a detector over it and sure enough it sees it, but never had any issues at the airport

All my equipment is the way it left the showroom floor, so I can't be sure.
I do however want to tell you WELCOME from the great town of Huntsville, AL.

Usually as a rule you're not hitting your ankles while swinging so it probably will not be an issue unless you have a PI machine which was mentioned above. That will be a little more sensitive to it.

I think you'll have no problems, I have metal in my elbow, and my lower back looks like Railroad Tracks in x-rays---- 4 Level Fusion w/to many extras to mention, last may.....
