Metal Detector Question

Looking to ad a different detector to what i have later this year. I currently have a ATpro and Minelab X-terra 70. I mainly hunt coins but looking for something to sniff out deep silver. I have had a Ex11, T2, XLT. ATpro i use the stock coil and 70 i use the 6'' HF coil. I mostly use the X70. They say the EXplorer SE and E-TRAC are deep on silver but is there any other detector's that will keep up with them. I will be looking for something used in good shape. I mainly hunt schools, parks. My only issue is with some of the negitive service from Minelab. Yes i know i have 1 but did'nt give much for it to worry about sending in for any kind of repair. Thanks Tom

Take a look for a good used Fisher CZ model although if you can afford it, you could also choose to buy a new CZ3D....I have owned a CZ off and on over the years and I have tried some of the other major brands but I keep coming back to a CZ for its ease of use and its ability to find those deep silver coins.

CZ3D has a 4 tone JD system.......if you want to see what they can do - check out Dirt Fishing's videos on you tube

You have already owned some really good detectors......the exp 11 will get deep silver as good as anything else and better than most. You can find deep silver with most of todays top end machines.....buying something else will not increase your deep silver finds. You have to go over the silver to find it and it will probably be far more productive, and cheaper,to do a bit of research and find a spot that is likely to hold the targets you are looking for.I have gone through many detectors in the hope that one will totally outshine all the others and have wasted loads of money in the process.Detector manufacturers want people to buy their machines so they have to be competitive in performance terms and that is why most of todays are fairly equal in terms of performance. This is why you will not get a machine that beats all others on deep silver objects....i'm afraid it just does'nt exist.

Well may have to look for another EX11, the 1 i had i only had the stock coil. How much more performance would you get adding the pro coil? Thanks Tom

The pro coil is supposed to be a better allrounder than the stock with a little more depth and better seperation. The sef 12x10 is also worth a look....it's a good coil and very stable.

Tom,
This only my opinion and observation but I would stay away from a used Minelab, too many horror stories on bad service, new ones that do not work brand new out of the box. Just do a little research on the forums. Minelab made an announcement a couple of years ago or so that they will no longer service their detectors that are 10 years old or over. This should be a red flag to used detector buyers. The Minelab Explorer ll that I previously owned was a nice and deep detector, after they announced they would no longer service it, I traded it off.
There is a guy on the E-Trac forum and his main PCB board went bad, quote from Minelab to repair was $1052 and this detector had just run out of warranty. Caveat Emptor

That's crazy about the e-trac repair. I don't do much research on all manufacturers detector repairs but does anyone else not repair there older unit? If i did purchase a used 1 with warranty and had a problem when warrarty ended i could not put out money like that for repairs. Anybody out there have repairs from other brand that where expensive enough not to fix? Thanks Tom

I think everyone, at some point, stops repairing their old machines. They HAVE to run out of spare parts eventually.

Tesoro repair dept. fixed an IC problem with my Inca (circa1983) a couple of years ago, cost? shipping one way on my end, about $15 out of pocket.

White's repair dept fixed my 5900 Di Pro SL (circa 1994) about 5 years ago, same as Tesoro, shipping on me one way. Although they have a minimum charge, they did not charge me on this 'one' particular repair, other's mileage may vary. I was assured that they have most parts to fix older models at that time.

These two companies in my experience and others that have posted, are enjoying a great reputation as far backing up a product.

Still, at some point you run out of spare parts. Maybe that's 3500 years from now, maybe its 3. Good on folks that really help us tho!

Tesoro life time warranty. I had a old golden saber all fixed that was very old. No charge and the problem was the battery box
