Metal Detector for hot ground

Wanted to see what everyone used for really mineralized ground. I've got a number of detectors, but don't want to go the pulse route just yet. Your help is appreciated.

I guess most diggers have a lot better ground to dig in than some of us Virginia guys. Most probably have no idea what hot ground is. Lucky for you.

Believe that almost any of Minelab's FBS detectors will work in high ground mineralization as good as and more likely better than almost anything else out there.

SD, how does the 70 do in prospecting mode in your ground?
No discrimination for sure but might beat nothing.
Hmm, I think you have the Etrac?
If you haven't already had you could try a ML Advantage
or one of the Whites 4 filters but I would assume you
have had them in the past, like the 5900, etc.
Some grounds are hard to penetrate you might have to go PI.

Well I'm going to the BMW hunt in Orange, Va. in a week or so and haven't hunted in ground that hot before with what I currently have. I don't know if the Etrac is the ticket, or if I might have to go with the Gold Bug SE or Xterra 70 in prospecting mode. Could try the Tejon, Omega, or 1236 but I doubt they'd be any better. Hate to get there and not be able to detect a bullet on top of the ground. Thanks.

The Minelab Explorer and Sovereigns do well although the Sovereign is slower than cold molasses to use. Everything is iron and you got to spend time standing around wiggling the coil over every target to see if the tone will rise. The Single Frequency VLF nod would have to go to the Fisher CoinStrike. One of the few single freq VLF's that hunt well at depth in hot magnetic ground.

Those are the ones I know work well. I have CZ3D that I haven't had the opportunity to prove in real bad ground conditions yet, and I used a Gold Bug version 2.9 that seemed to hold promise but I didn't run it long enough that time around to say for sure.

Thanks Mike, yeah I've got a 29er that I plan to take with the biaxial coil. Might have to run it in all metal and then maybe check in disc. I guess I'll try the Etrac and hunt in two tone ferrous. I've got a 1236 with a big coil. Don't know how that would work in that hot ground. Some say they work great. Thanks for your help.

The F5 works great in hot ground,Xlt also,Fisher 1236X2,Troy Shadow X3,IDX,Quantum XT,Prizm V,Cointrax II,Gold Bug,AT Pro ,F2.etc. The two thai I owned that couldn't was Tesoro Deleon and a Minelab 305 an I used em in VA.

I have detected several of the DIV hunts. I don't know where you will be hunting in Va. but I think it's going to be near Chancellorsville, but not sure.

I have used the F-75 with great success, I have also used the X-terra 70 in Virginia and it works also, but not that well in the Culpeper area. I now use a TDI and a Infinium and carry my F-75 also. The TDI and Infinium are so much better for hot soil. A whole lot less square nails!!!!!

I would have to say, what ever detector you use, run it in all metal, make sure you can GROUND BALANCE it, and be able to change frequencies.
If there are a great number of people using the same detector that you are or even another one that will interfere with your detector, it will drive you crazy if you can't change frequencies. Also detect SLOW, listen for those weak REPEATABLE signals. Also make sure you have a good digger or shovel, that Va. ground is hard on a cheap digger.

If you are using a Garrett Pro Pointer, lay it near your open hole and then turn it on. Don't turn it on before you put it in the hole, it will go off in every direction. Just put it on the ground near the hole you dug and then turn it on.

Hope some of my info will help you find the Relic of a Lifetime. Good Luck
