Metal Detecting with the 5x10 SEF COIL, LIVE DIG

I have been using the 6x8 for about 2 years now, and it took a lot of courage to dump it and buy the new 5x10 SEF, well, I'm glad I did. there is no doubt you'll love this Coil if you pick one up... 5x10 & never looking back.

One of my hunting partner is still using the 6x8 and the same machine, and the same patterns & settings, he's getting smoked! :)

What chirp's with the 6x8 hit's loud with the 5x10, pinpointing is another mismatch IMO.

Nice post.
Thanks for sharing.
I'm curious how the 5x10 sef stacks up against the Coiltek too.

This is a factor for a lot of people ...
Do you know how much the 5 x 10 weighs compared to the 6 x 8 SEF and the stock Pro-Coil ?

What do you mean by pinpointing is another mismatch? It doesn't pinpoint well??
It's a mismatch for the 6x8 against the 5x10. the 5x10 Pinpoints way better:smoke:

It feels less heavy too me, but I have not weighed it against the 6x8, but it is lighter than the Pro Coil for sure, I think it's about 8 ounces or so (I think the 6x8 is heavier)..... need to look at the specs to make sure. It swung good :)

I weighed them on postal scales. I will get me weights in a little while but i know the 5x10 weighs almost as much as pro coil. And alot more than 6x8.

Well it should smoke the 6x8, you're comparing a 10 inch coil to an 8 inch coil. It's apples and oranges. It should get almost as much depth as the 11" Pro coil.

Actually , depth is more a function of width than length. This is from Garretts site on circular vs elliptical coils for convenience:

" A circular searchcoil has slightly more detection depth and sensitivity in non-mineralized soil, so it is still the most commonly used shape."

I think Detech brought out the 5x10 WSS(wide scan) for coverage more than depth. It would have been nice to see a side by side test on the same targets with the same machine in your video as it would have added credibility to your praise.

Well if that's the case the 6x8 should be deeper since its wider and my ultimate 13" should be deeper than my 12x15 SEF (and it's not) I'm not buying what Garrett's selling.

Believe what you wish ,it's a pretty well established fact , not something Garrett created. How about Tesoro?: "The length and width of the coil affects different aspects of its performance. The length of the coil (toe-to-heel) affects your coverage area, while the width (side-to-side) affects the depth."
Take a moment to google and read about it---learn...............

I don't have to google it. I can go test them. The 12x15 Sef is narrower than the Ultimate 13" yet the SEF is deeper. The op is claiming the 5x10 smokes the 6x8 in regards to depth and it is narrower. My 6x8 is deeper than my 6" Excellerator and on and on.

Believe what you wish also. There is no arguing that there are several aspects of design that affect coil performance. To simply parrot the line that width equals depth is foolish because it is not that simple. Perhaps you should "learn" some. Your quoted theory does not hold up all the time in the real world I have a 12" wide coil that is deeper than a 13" wide coil that I own. That is a fact. I have two coils that are 6" wide and the on that is 8" long is deeper. That is a fact.

Shooters.... I didn't want this thread to turn into something more than what it was. someone brought up the 5x10 might actually be heaver than the 6x8, AND the Pro Coil. I did not weight any of them, they might be right on this one.... BUT! the 5x10 swings lighter than the Pro Coil to me and just as light feeling in my hands as the 6x8, maybe even more.... maybe it''s the design (small width). I think most everyone would consider the 5x10 & the 6x8 mid sized Coil's. at least I do, anyways, I hope if you get the chance, go try one out, I think you'll be surprised on what it can do... I'm just so excited to share with you, the new LOVE I have for this Coil after dumping my 6x8 SEF.

This is an awesome site, and I know everyone has different opinions and I expect no difference...after all, this is just a hobby, but I can tell it's a well loved one at that! LOL, HH to all, & GL, DirtDiga

My 6x8 weighs 1 pound even--almost 3 oz. less than the Pro or about 20% less while the 5x10 comes in at less than an ounce or 3% less. +/-
Man I like real numbers!
Now if we can get that video showing the 5x10 hitting so much harder and deeper than the 6x8 on the same target with the same machine and with the same optomized settings , we might be on the way to an actual objective and credible comparison. :)

I didnt notice much difference in the 2 sef coils. I actually have the 5x10 coiltek black coil now and love it. The sef coils are really good on whites machines but i havent noticed a huge difference with minelab. I use pro coil most

As the aforementioned hunting partner being smoked, I can attest, we have hunted several times since lookn4gold got his 10x5, for a total of an estimated 10 hours of hunting. During that time there have been locations that did not yield to me any wheats, while lookn4gold was digging them right and left. I actually swung on a target he had that ended up being a deep copper Lincoln which was weak and iffy on my machine, but hit solid with the 10x5.

I'm sticking with the 8x6 for now as I am so in tune with it the last few months I hate the thought of giving it up.
