metal detecting virgin property in virginia need help

provantage

New member
my longtime friends have a 400 acre property in lovingston virginia and the old homestead is still standing. i was there years back and found family graves in the wood dating back to late 1700's. please note i will not be detecting graves. My question is this i am using a white qxt pro with the factory 950 ring. any advice on what settings i should use? I am a coin shooter but want to do relic hunting as well, due to the history of this property. do i use a coin and jewerlry or relic and prospecting zones All the help i can get will be greatly appreciated.

Coin and jewelry seems to work well for me on my xlt. Especially if you can actually detect around the homestead, this well help you get less iron, such as nails. If you want to find iron then try your relic mode. If there is an area such as the farmlands( big open fields), woodlands, relic may be a good program. You can also scrim out the junk by deleting the numbers that relate to the stuff you don't to want to find. You should have no problem finding old coins, buttons, musket balls, and possible cival war relics. If you need any company maybe I could drive from Massachusetts to help you out. Ron

Hi provantage. Find Critterhunter on this forum. He's the QXT pro ( no pun intended ) on this site. He can answer all your questions and probably some you haven't even thought to ask. Good luck with your hunt at that old site. It sounds very intriguing. Don't forget to update us and post your finds.

thanks for the advice i actually was out this evening detecting a defunked drive- in didnt find a thing my qxt was all over the place. will try again before weeds grow in for the year

I mostly always run the coin and jewelry program
on my DFX. I tweek it a little for coin hunting
and a little more for relic hunting. Never had
a QXT.
I actually live in Crozet, which is very close
to Lovingston.
