metal detecting small fresh water beaches.

Just a wondering?? When they rake the beaches from end to end, I would think they are dragging a lot of items to the ends of the beaches and dropping them off as they turn to go back the other way. Would this be the case? I am new to the beach detecting using the CTX 3030. For me its just a theory.

Thanks, M.L. Hinds

I Think it has a lot to do with how modern the beach rake machine is... I heard stories from years ago on where they turned there was a possible chance of treasure, but with the new machines not sure.

I’ve never seen that to be the case. Maybe light junk might be thrown out but metal I’d have to say, especially small stuff like rings, stays right where the machine went over it. At least that’s what happens at Myrtle. .

I have a few freshwater beaches that I search and they drag them and I have not noticed any noticeable amount of targets at the turns.. like you I thought that would be the case, but not in my experience.
I've seen them in action and they are moving mighty fast which makes me think the items are more likely to slip through and stay where they are. .I think the main reason they rake the beaches is not to remove trash, but to smooth the sand out.

Local hotel located on the beach has a crew out raking the beach early every morning. All I have ever seen them remove is the occasional aluminum can or article of clothing that got removed and lost. I think they rake the beach primarily to smooth out the sand for the people who stay at the hotel. I have never found anything where they lifted the rake to allow the sand/trash to be deposited. they pick up the trash.
