Metal Detecting Rally's in USA

I have been corresponding with a gentleman who just attended a rally in Bedford, UK. He found some museum quality Roman Coins and Relics. He suggested that I join next year which I may do. There are apparently many in the UK sponsored by Minelab. My question is, are there the same types of Rally's right here in the USA? With all of the farm fields, etc. one would think that there would be great opportunities for MD'ers. Are there organized MD'ing Rally's in the USA and if so, where can I find info. on them.
Thanks
Chuck

i don't think we have the exact same thing but the many different competion hunts that the different clubs put on would come pretty close. of course the coins are planted not many where the coins and relics have been lost naturally but there are a few.

Thanks For your reply Chuck,
I really don,t like the idea of planted coins! Don't you agree that there are plenty of old coins and relics in US farm fields? Most of the great finds are from fields according to the forums that I read. It would not take a lot to pursuade farmers to allow hunts with a little monetary incentive.

there are some in fields but i don't think we could find them to the degree they do in England. the older the area the better but there would have to be a lot of research to find places where a lot of activity took place. a lot of the stuff found in England was lost a long time before much was happening here.

I do agree that the age of coins and relics would be nothing like you would find in the UK or Europe but I would give my eye teeth to find an LC or Seated or Barbers which are plentiful in some fields.

i don't do it but you can find a lot of those coins by hunting old yards. picnic grounds are another good choice. of course you'll find a lot of the picnic grounds in the fields.
