Metal Detecting Pouch

SurfPro

New member
Hello,

I previously posted this in the Sov GT, Ex Cal thread. Thought this may be a better place. Sorry for the redundancy.

This is a bag I bought a few years back, it's pretty worn out. I've been wanting to replace it for awhile now, but I can't remember where I bought it. Whilst metal detecting on Santa Monica Beach last weekend I ran into Gene from Florida, swinging an Ex Cal. While exchanging pleasantries I noticed he had the same pouch. He said he was friends with the guy who makes them and new his number by heart. I thought I put it into my cell, but it didn't happen. If anyone knows where this fellow is who makes these great goody bags, please let me know. All I do know, is that he's located somewhere in Florida.

Thanks,
SP

I'm pretty sure I have seen those (or something very similar) on ebay.

I had one similar to that I purchased off ebay but the zips were not salt water friendly.
And the fabric backing was peeling.

In the end I got my wife to make one out of some special fabric I bought.
Slips onto a diving or wide belt.
Velcro pockets and lower pocket that does not show its contents.
Holes in fabric to allow the sand to wash through.

1 year down the road its still like new.

Odd..... i posted to this and it seems to have disappeared. Any who, the guy who makes them is in the Bradenton area and a member of the Bradenton detecting club.

Dew

dew, I thought the same thing happened to me yesterday. then my post showed up today (above) with what I believe is the wrong timestamp.

at first i thought I had accidentally hit the preview button, then today thought this was a different thread that the OP started in different forums, then I saw your post and know that something glitchy has happened.

robin, that's a nice looking pouch. does your wife rem what the material is? something tough that passes sand sounds very interesting for a diy.

I found a sea grade fabric/netting on ebay, i will look to see if I can find the listing.
I also asked her to put a liner in on the lower pocket so the contents could not be seen, she used a black nylon shower curtain for this

Update
this is the fabric i used
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Polyester-Heavy-Duty-Mesh-Fabric-1metre-x-155cm-wide-/111019090951?ssPageName=ADME%3AL%3AOC%3AGB%3A3160&nma=true&si=7xDaCGZek4BEkkbO1K3LJAiQ7Wo%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

This listing is no longer active but sure there must be similar on your side of pond.

The American kids now a days carry these really cool rip stop nylon lunch bags, with cold liners and zippers and everything! They make a decent finds pouch! Sometimes, theres even half a sandwich in them too, or an apple, so double plus good there!

I find several a week running schoolyard totters early of a Sat am, on my warm up hunts before hitting the cold unmerciful water...I eat whats inside and use them for a finds pouch for water hunting..fill them up with scrap and throw the whole dang deal away and go find another next week!

I remember when us poor kids 'brown bagged' it to school....Mama expected us to bring the empty brown bag home for re-use...by the time a guy gets to Highschool, a guy got the deal down to the point he would make ONE brown bag last an entire year! All tattered and taped up to be damned!...It was like some sort of poor kids contest or merit badge! Can you get through the entire year on just one brown bag?

Anyway, these fancy pants kids now a days just abandon their fine lunchbags all over the place! I pick them up and string them on a weight belt, or cut the straps and thread on some quick releases from a washed up life jacket, and a guy is golden!... they really do make a great finds pouch, plus, if a fellow likes to carry along a couple of 'cold ones' as I do, to discreetly sip during a hunt, carbo charge if you will...they have that cold liner!...Who cares if its only 8am when you crack a cold one?

After all, we are Pirates right?:beers::buds: One of Lifes great experiences is to drink a cold beer early of a morning, with a pouch full of gold and watching the Sun rise..although I'm sure most of you know that!.:clapping:

Ehh you were the lucky one, I was not given a bag, or sandwhich. Lunches were for the rich folks.

:nopity:

I wouldn't eat that swill they served at school so if my mom wanted me to eat, it was going to school with me in a paper bag.

Thanks, robin!

Search the web for:

Mesh Treasure Pouch/Bag For Beach, Surf & Water Hunting Metal Detecting 2" Belt

There is also a pouch/bag with a 1" belt.

I bought the 2" belt mainly to tell the difference from another bag that is usually found in my van along with mine.
