Metal Detecting on Community College Propety

I live very close to a local community college that sits very close to a protected civil war battlefield. My question is..has anyone used their detector on community college grounds? I'm certainly not going to detect next to the front door, but there are a few acres of maintained fields behind the school that doesn't appear to be used for anything other than a buffer between the school and the highway. I have searched the internet for an answer, and I find no information on this topic.

(I know this isn't the proper forum for this question, but I didn't know which forum to post this in.)

I have searched the gravel areas around the BB courts and the security drove right by me, I dont know about the grass areas, I don't think it would cause any harm the worst they might do is ask you to leave but I think most will just let you be as long as you fill your holes maybe keep your trash handy to show what good you are doing as well.

Yes, you just have to time it right...when school is on break, security will still come over to see what you are doing most likely, so dress accordingly. I suggest you not carry any obvious digging tool, wear kneepads or a big tool belt looking thing..just a screwdriver. Try to appear as a harmless old duffer picking up pennys. Also go very early and don't stay too long. I do the edges of the parking areas where they push up the snow, and a few of the common areas where the kids throw Frisbees, but it sure would be great to be able to do it all up near the doors and such.

All the shootings have security on high alert. Myself I would call security and explain why I would be on their grounds.. Just so they know !!
