metal detecting obsession:cool:

Hello friends, I love this hobby so much that I probably spend too much time in it and sometimes neglect some really important things. I spend a whole lot of time reading detecting books, magazines, etc,... and chatting online with fellow detectorists. I don't like to admit it but my prayer life and bible study time gets set aside before I even realize it. Can anyone relate? How can I keep it in balance?:)

Dirt - As for me - I read a lot also. I always have a pile of books next to my barko lounger chair that I read in. But also right next to me, closer than the books , is my Bible and I usually read part of it before I start on my books. I read a certain amount each day , almost without exception. Usually about 15 to 20 minutes.
I also listen to Christian music when out looking for, or driving to, detecting places. And this can be a form of Bible study if you have a good station going.
Good to see ya posting here, steve in so az

Lucky Dan's right?

I have to admit life gets a bit hectic just day to day stuff. I too know I need more time in the Word. I cannot always get good signal strength up here at Houghton Lake for any of the Christian radio stations. When at home, and on the internet, I find a good Christian music station and listen to it on the computer. I also have the capability of taking songs I hear and put them on an MP3 player....then I connect it to the car radio with an accessory designed to send a signal through the cassette deck. I then hear uninterrupted music to sing praises to God with while driving.

Each morning Sherry and Casey have a Bible study before Casey heads off to school...want her to get off to a good start in the morning. (I get to listen and join in the study.) A great way to start off any day.

I guess like anything...we have to make a conscience effort to do what needs to be done before doing what we want to do. God first is what needs to be done and then God will bless us (in what we want to do right?)

Nice having ya here...don't be shy. Hey have you heard from Cadman at all? Been several months since I last saw a post from him.

Yeah, I can relate...although I have other things that are ahead of detecting on my pecking order(music). To me, its like paying your bills. There are some things that you know you have to pay before anything else. So you have to prioritize those things...they get bumped to the top. The spiritual realm needs to be prioritized too, and if it is important to you, then spend more time with it. Does that make sense? But you know, I can talk a pretty mean game. That is not always what I do though. I usually go over a devotion and pray in the evening before I go to bed, but sometimes it gets skipped if I am too tired, or I want to work on one more Sudoku puzzle, etc.
So, hang in there. You are facing what most of us face in life...the temptation to put other things before God.

Best Wishes,

J. Brown

Good to see ya. First I would say you need to hang around this place more often. Here you get detecting and God. But always put Him first. If you hang in the right circles then those type of people and the things they do etc.... will rub off on you! :)

God bless!

 Hi! Yes! I remember you from Luck Dan's. I changed my email address and never updated on that forum. Also the Bounty Hunter Forum got changed around a bit. I havent heard anything from Cadman either. Hope all is well with him. Thanks for the tips about music. Thats a great idea:clapping: Sounds like you are blessed with a wonderful family also. Good to hear from you too! HH

 Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome and for sharing your thoughts on this subject. I actually used a metal detector in teaching a Sunday School lesson one time. I hid a coin inside a bible and detected it to illustrate that there is hidden treasure in the word. Pretty cool huh? Happy Hunting!:jump:
