Metal Detecting Near South Pass City, Wyoming?

Colorado CJ

New member
Me and my dad are going to do a bike ride/camp to the South Pass City area of Wyoming. I was wondering if any of you had metal detected in the area. I've read on some locals who had found many small nuggets and was wondering where they were finding them.

Any hints/tips?

We'll also be taking along a small folding sluice to work some of the creeks.

Thanks!

Make very sure you are not on privet land or on active mining claims, that whole area is very heavily claimed up.
The GPAA has some claims in that area and they do have some gold on them. If you belong to them try the
claims on Rock Creek and you may do good. Also check with the BLM in Lander and ask them for the name
of the people that own the dredge tailing piles on Rock Creek, contact them and ask permission to detect
there and you may fine some nice gold there. Start at Willies Hand Cart and work your way up the creek.
Good Luck
