Metal Detecting Markers

Bill in Texas

New member
:detecting: I am 72 years old and have bad hips. I have trouble getting up and down a lot. To solve this problem, I carry a light weight padded garden stool (it has Wheels) to the area where I am metal detecting. As I metal detect I mark several targets, then I carry the detector and stool to one of the marked targets, sit and dig it out. I have marked targets with several things through years, but I Have recently came up with a new marker that I like very much, is very easy to use and does not seem to be affected by the wind. I made these out of Plastic peanut jar lids with the rim cut off. They are about 2 1/4 inches in diameter and I put a hole in the middle for fine tuning with a stick or whatever. You don't have to hunt for them as you can see them from a ways off. When I start to dig I use my Tinytec pin pointer instead of the big detector and seldom have to turn on the big detector again. My garden stool has a pouch to carry the Tinytec and digging tools. Here is a picture of the markers that I came up with. Bill In Texas :tesoro:

What a great idea Bill. I hope I'm still able to get out and hunt when I'm 72..........heck, I hope I'm still alive.

Wow, that's a good method! I hand made some bean bags for marking with red material and ordinary white beans in them. Try a targetbuddy.xxx plug digger. I looked at the tinytech-probes.xxx, I never heard of before. Garrett is suppose to have a new good one out called the Pro-Pointer.

WTG! Easy to spot and a target hole in the center....
I always like the little simplistic ideas .
I have used for lawns/parks the hot neon color plastic golf tee's. They come in different lengths and the long ones can be stuck in the ground just a little bit making it easy to spot the bright color. Can have a mix of colors and use them like - chartreuse (hot yellow/green) for coins, maybe orange for for a low conductive target etc.
They are cheap and the color does not weather.
I actually started using them once when making a test garden. I pushed them down so the head was hidden from the top of the lawn - about flush with the soil. Then would test a detector and would work at my pinpointing practice. Then I would use a brass probe and see if I could hit the tee on the head with the probe. I first used a permanent marker to write like 5c on the head for nickle or it could be just 5 for five inches depth. Then a variety of colors came to play.
Anyway I had color coded a pattern in the backyard once and was what I let my son use for checking out a machine that was new to him. It helped him allot. Having them down to the soil and nobody knew all the tees in the lawn. Kept curious kids from taking them. Doesn't interfere at all when mowing the lawn.
