Metal detecting in the rain

Waterdog

Well-known member
With our Garrett At Pro's and Gold's being waterproof are there any of us that venture out into the rain metal detecting ?

This summer I never depended on the forecast and got caught , but most of the time passing showers will not be too bothersome hunting in the woods. When it does pour
I'm thankful for the AT and the blues, I read one post where the guy cautioned about raising the MD up as the water would run down the shaft into the control box . I know they make covers and silicone seems ect. , who needs that worry. I do tape the speaker on my pinpointer not sure if you need to.

I don't go afield in a downpour as its just to un-comfortable. I, however, and my hunting buddy is pretty much the same, don't let intermittent showers, or the chance of, keep me from going out. I have hunted in a few light showers since getting the A T Pro. HH jim tn

Cool!
I liked what Asiandigger said! One of the main reasons I got the Pro was to 'lengthen' up my detecting year...you know, 'all terrain and all season'...that said I am ashamed to say I have not yet hunted ANY dirt with it, just water and beaches, with the blue headphones of course...

The rain or 'bad' days are just perfect for us Pro swingers!! A pleasure to be out in them in fact...Theres nobody else out in that mess except duck hunters...from what I see what you dirt fellows do, I am sure I may employ it on the dirt someday in a real frogstrangler, I've been soaked clean down to my skin hunting wet days....up to now, I drape a towel over the 'brains' of my main land rig and have had no troubles, aside from a fogged screen..worried a time or two about it though....a guy cant plan Life around the weather or he never gets anything done!...Sunny nice days are few, and when they do come along, the grass needs to be mowed or some other complete waste of time! If a fellow had to only have one rig, for general purpose and all season/weather/year round/all terrain hunting...the Pro seems to fit the bill, I defy anybody to exhibit results otherwise, theres no other rig out there like this one I think we can all safely say.....

Sometimes the best time to hunt a place is in bad weather. [Not a downpour] Today my weather was cold, damp, lousy. Got to hunt a ballfield with no one around.

More than a few times I have been out on the beach and rain comes in... never a propblem unless there is a little lightning... never worried about getting the detector wet

I was out one time, pouring like crazy. A guy was his car eating roll down his window and shouted are you crazy. I replied back, its a sunny day for me.

I got one of those Frog togs or such, breathable hooded rain coat, and it is so comfortable in the rain. It's nice to have the places pretty much to yourself when it's raining. Biggest problem is the plug dirt sticking to the shovel, I use a long handled tiler shovel, so I spray it with silicone if the ground is wet to keep from tearing up the plugs in nice grassy areas.

I have hunted the shallow waters (around swimming areas) for years and love what I have found. My water machines often have waterproof headphones and make detecting out of the water uncomfortable as they do not breath making me hot. So far with the At pro the headphones seem more comfortable and hunting in the rain is a lot easier and keeps me cooler.
