Metal Detecting in Mexico

Does anyone know the Laws for Metal Detecting in Mexico? I will be staying at a private beach house and know one seems to know if its okay to metal detect. Since this is another country and I've heard that in Mexico the government owns all beach and they patrol it often, I don't want to break any laws. Anyone know what the law is or who I can contact?

Thanks

Never detected there. But, last time I was there, Mexican guards patroling beaches with automatic weapons. Lots of crime and lots of people with there hands out.

I'll get you the number tomorrow to the Mexican consulate here on my part of the border they may be able to answer your question.

Nova,
Here is the 800 number to the Mexican consulate 1-800-577-2322 they may be able to help you with that question. Hope this helps, whatever they tell you be careful down there.

The police beach patrol never bothered me and I saw other detectorists working the dry sand also without being hassled. The same rules of courtesy apply in Mexico and you shouldn't have a problem. Finding mexican pesos sucks though.
