Hello; can someone please help me.I am looking to buy a great set of headphones for my tesoro detectors. Are there any type
headphones that are better than the other then what is already out there, and what brand would that be.Like gray ghost,
jolly rogers, killer b's,etc..I do a lot of different metal detecting in parks, around baseball and football and soccer fields..Please
let me know what you have the best succes with.Thank you..

Hi,
First of all I would say : this depends on where you live.
There are two styles of headphones.
The type that have foam ear cups and the type that completely surround you ear with plastic/leather ear cups.
In cold weather you may want to completely cup your ears - in hot humid weather this may prove to be quite annoying cause they often turn out to be sweaty and itchy.
I find that good stereo hifi headphones do the job for me without having to fork over major cash.
I use a pair of Koss HV/1A with foam pads or a pair of Sony DR-S5 with leather pads - depending on the weather.
Both sets were bought used on fee-bay and total cash outlay was way less than for a single pair of the brands mentioned aforehand.

Edit:
some detectors do not have a volume control - so having one on your headphones may be of benefit.
And of course phones that are waterproof are needed if you do any serious beach detecting in crappy weather or when snorkeling/diving.

Edit 2 was for spelling errors

Before I edit a third time:
You have to make a choice whether you prefer the curly cord or the straight wire type cord.
I have used both types and find the straight wire type better suited for my applications.
I have cut down on the length though, since I do not need 10 feet of cord dangling about my knees.

I have been using a pair of Killer B II headphones for a bit over three years. I find them to be very comfortable. Excellent sound reproduction. Great noise reduction so that wind etc does not make your targets hard to hear. The II have volume control on each cup so you can adjust for any difference in hearing. I have tried less expensive headphones and they do not do the job for me. I tried a pair of the Koss ur-30 that Minelab ships with their high end detectors and I gave them away.

With my machine good sound reproduction is vital.

I really like my killer bs. I thought they felt better and had a clearer tone than gray ghost.

I live in ohio and would like to use headphones that have the curled cords..There is a fellow detectorist on the headphone reveiw on
youtube that explains 3 different headphones that he uses..

I've been using the Nugget Busters NDT for roughly 10 years now. They come with volumn control for each ear which is nice if your hearing isn't the same in both ears. The only problem I've had has been with the plug going into the detector. I had to repair the wires that broke loose. Years of wear and tear will do that.

I've used Jolly Rogers for the last couple of years and really like them.

For the type hunting you mentioned any headphone with a coiled cord would work. There used to be a brand called Calrads that were good and Radio Shack used to have some good ones but they quit carrying them. If they don't have a coiled cord they always end up getting tangled and are a nuisance. I've never used the higher priced ones mentioned but the seem to a bit of overkill for clad hunting.

When I first started detecting I used Depthmaster Superphones with a Tesoro and at that time with my hearing ability they sounded great. A few years later I purchased some Calrads and Grey Ghosts and both sounded great on my Tesoro's at that time with my hearing ability. Today I use Calrads with my Tesoro's cause they work for me with my hearing ability and I'm cheap:) Headphones are really about "what works for you" as far as your fit, hearing ability and budget...only my opinion. HH!

Get the best headphones you can afford !!! Cheap is just that........cheap. Why have a great detector and then you cannot hear what it is trying to tell you ?

Why pay over $100 to find recently lost clad when the $30 ones sound just fine?
Well hopefully those $100 headphones hears the silver and gold tones just below the clad is one good reason !

the type of hunting he described didn't include older sites and I've found plenty of silver and gold using cheap and sometimes no headphones.

I hate wearing Headphones period but due to Background noise you must. Detector Pro Rattlers are the only choice for me.

Hoping someone can enlighten me. I tried a couple of different pairs of earbuds style headphones on my fairly new xterra 705. Each of the pairs only plays through one side. Is this due to mono rather than stereo output? I need to use the 1/4 inch adapter, is this maybe my issue? Can I get such a thing as a mono adapter? Sorry for noob questions.
I don't really like headphones but can see the benefit in the right conditions. I also need to wear a wide hat due to microwave style sun here in OZ so earbuds will need to be used.

Thanks for any help available.
