Are there any metal detecting clubs that are recognized as historical or archaeological preservationists who have as their overall mission of being educational and promoting responsible metal detecting? And does this org. have national recognition that would grant it any validity to activly pursue the hobby for historical, archaeological, educational purposes with by-laws and a written code of ethics?

Our club does get to hunt a local historical site(fort) in our town as a group, all items recovered are turned over to the park on the one day hunt, which has taken place the past couple of years....a hunt at this state park is coming up for next month...as far as national recognition????

Ive always wondered if any of the FMDAC elected officials follow the forums i cant say as ive ever seen a post in response to some of the local and state laws thats being passed about detecting. How active are they? As far as a club the last one i was in was disappointing. Dont get me wrong there are some great clubs mine just wasnt one of them.

Dew, if the FMDAC had as many paying members as a group like .... say .... the NRA had, then the FMDAC could do TONS. But the sad fact is, we are in a niche hobby, with few adherents. Contrast to gun buffs, and there's gun buffs by the b*ttload in any given city. So without major #'s, the $$ will be limited. So here's what you can do though: we know your loaded, so send them a cool $50k donation (like Charelton Heston no doubt has done for the NRA) and I bet you'll see some better results! :wiggle:
