metal detecting after a good rain

Heard a lot of rumors that detecting after a good rain is the perfect time. I've found a single mercury dime in my local park. Do you think I would have a good chance to find more old coins. It's been raining almost all day and plan to go to same area. Any good tips for me and what are the best signals to look for...any help would b appreciated.....

Don't know about the rest of the folks , But my detectors regardless of what brand I had at the time, seems to always go deeper after a good rain.

I'm not so sure that theory is valid. I live in the Pacific Northwest and it rains here most of the time. If rain made detecting easier, I could have retired a long time ago.

this old red clay here seems to do better after a rain.

The rain has to have at least a day to soak in. Just rained on sites can actually lessen the depth because it washes away the matrix and any halo that had been present.

It does penatrate deeper in moist ground its transmitted from the coil and in the ground and eddy currents hits the targets, less conductive are slower getting to the reciever than more conductive targets so moist ground does help, HHH.

Yes, I believe that after a good soaking, the halo effect produced by rainwater on metal seems to enhance the signal under the coil.
