Received a pm from a good feller' I met a couple years ago.
Forum member bday told me he had researched a very promising site...had finally been able to obtain proper permission...and that I was welcome to come and hit it with him. Needless to say I blew off some work...and headed his way the next morning...right after lunch.
When I got there Bob was workin the SE w/ pro coil and was getting some good signals..but said he was frustrated because of the lack of "deep" hits.

After an hour or so...I must admit I was a little disappointed as well because I wasn't getting ANY hits...let alone deep ones.
What sucked eggs was the fact that it was obvious that 75% of this wonderful site had been bulldozed and buried under filldirt.
Finally Bob got a nice hit about 9" and popped out a SWEET Chevy emblem which he is cleaning right now.

I decided to wander to a spot a few feet away that had a couple of trees there. They weren't super old trees...but the 30' x 30' area around it just looked interesting.
I finally got a decent hit but it was strange...and it was directly under a big freakin' tree root.
I worked for nearly 20 minutes to get the probe to sound off...and it was still directly under the deep root and I could not get to it.
I then worked it from the right side of the root...sticking the lesche right down along the edge...and trying to pry upwards to the left ...which was the open side of where I'd dug the plug.
Finally some dirt moved...and what looked like the pointed top of a fence post or gate surfaced.
When it did...a shiny disc also showed up in the loose dirt which I had pryed and cleared from underneath the root. A nice and shiny barber dime.

About 10 feet away I popped out the 1910 wheatie which I thought was gonna' be an injun.
I then got another hit with the sweet high warble to it at about the 7" mark on the depth meter.
I dug a makeshift plug from the dry soil and was pleasantly rewarded with a second barber dime...an 1892 from only 7" deep.
This one was less than 15 feet from where I found the first...but it came out completely black, crusty...and tarnished...very strange.

3 coins in 3 hours...and I'm sure as heck not complaining.

It was a great time which is what it's all about for me.
Bob did well too finding quite a few wheaties and the sweet chevy emblem...which I'm looking forward to seeing all cleaned up.
Thanks Bob for all the research you did...and obtaining permission.
I truly appreciate you inviting me to hunt with you at a site I would have never known about or gotten to hunt had you not slid me the invite.
Here's the link to Bob's post of his sweet chevy emblem find...and what it looks like cleaned up a little.
