Messing with Pan's again

I went out to a local park and took a few shots of a little pond that I have seen masassaga rattlesnakes around. Thought I would take a shot
The second shot is what is left of Edsel Fords estate house, called Haven Hill.
It is located a few miles from me in a state park. Ford bought all the land and built a beautiful log mansion. I understand it was after Linburg, who was a friend of his, had his son kidnapped. Ford bought a thousand acres or so, with three or four lakes on it. He died and eventually the family donated it to the state.
It is at the top of the hill and it is interesting to prowl around up there and try to visulize what it was like. Way down the hill, in the woods and on the side of the hill, is the old patio and swimming pool.
Some jerk kids burned the house down a few years back, in the winter. It was totaled because the fire trucks could not get up there.

I'm going to the Tiger's opener today and then I'm heading up north after the game for a couple of days. I have to finish shooting the room interiors of the motel I am doing a web site for up there. That should only take a couple of hours so if the weather cooperates I should have lots of free time to wander around the woods and play with the camera. Naturally I am going to try some pans while I'm out there.
My next learning project was going to be portrait photography. I am going to put that on hold as in order to do it right I'll need some backgrounds and better lighting equipment. Besides, the weather is starting to get nice and I'd really rather be outside anyway.
Instead, I think my next learning project is going to be sports photography. I must admit that it is much harder than I thought. I figured with all that natural light available that it would simply be point and shoot ... WRONG!!! I tried some shots at my sons varsity game last week and none of my pictures came out very good. I had lots of problems focusing and framing the shots, and my timing was horrible. Then I found out why all the professional photographers at the major league games use a monopod with their telephoto lens. All the shots I took with my 300mm came out blurry due to lens shake. Then to make matters worse I was on the SIG photography site and ran across the guy in the link below. He really had some good stuff, now I'm motivated.
I'll post my stuff from the weekend when I get back. Have a great weekend Bud!

to post your sports action shots. I have never tried it myself.
