Messing with bugs again

It is raining and just before it started I took the camera out to the trumpet vines so practice a little.
After 64 years I am finally gonna have to buy some glasses I feel. I just can not see fine enough to get the shot clearly.
These are three that I did get but there are not right on. I usually look for the legs or antenna and figure if I can see them, I am close but it is not working this summer.
Couple ants on the Trumpet Vines and some kind of bug on the bird feeder. No bees this time Nim...
Nim is a pussy and bees skeer the poor boy

... I just have a lot of healthy respect for bees, that's all. Now, on to your photos. The first one seems to be either way out of focus or a victim of camera shake. I'm guessing camera shake is the likely culprit. Do you use a tripod when you shoot or is it hand held? The second photo looks like you front focused just a bit. The piece of fruit, or whatever the ant is on, looks to be perfectly in focus while the ant seems to be slightly out of focus. Obviously the the shallow DOF hurts any macro shot that isn't dead on for focus. The third photo looks like you just slightly back focused. Are you manually focusing these shots? If you are, then maybe instead of glasses a dioptic eye piece may be just the solution for you. Getting old is hell, ain't it? My eyes are so bad that if it weren't for auto focus I doubt I could even do photography.

That ant looks like it could use a bikini wax.
I have been lurking on this forum for a while and not contributing because I know next to nothing about photography. I am continually amazed at all the pictures you guys take and the detail of them.
My one and so far only introduction to digital photography was with a Polaroid "fun flash" camera I got a few years ago along with a full copy of Paint Shop Pro ver.5.01. Now of course Windows XP will not accept the camera. I am going to have to pull the thumb out of my ear and buy a decent camera "one of these days."
Back in the early sixties, when I had more money than brains, I had a Roloflex twin lens reflex (with built in meter) and a Braun's Hobby twin flash light unit. Today my only claim to fame is an old Petri FT 35 mm whose shutter sticks at speeds below a 15th. Of course I am not forgetting a couple of pocket cameras. I mainly only do the occasional snapshot for now.
So for now I will slip back into lurkdom, but want to say again I really enjoy the fruit of all of your work(s). I have read most of the postings here and looked at your pictures. I have learned a lot about what to look for in the camera that is in my near future, and for that I wish to thank you all.
Who knows maybe one of these days I will post a picture of the Misquito that keeps biting my arm. Hopefully before I smash it's fuzzy butt. Untill then I just keep scratching.

we sure welcome new blood. None of us are pro's but there are a few that have been messing with cameras for years. I don't happen to be one of them though.
My problem is with getting the darned things in focus. When you are shooting the little guys it is very hard to get the whole thing in focus.
I guess it would be easier if I were shooting in a studio, with dead bugs but since I am hand holding the camera and the wind is blowing and the bugs are crawling, I should be happy that I can tell they are ants.
To compensate for the wind, my movement and the bug moving I have to use a fast shutter speed. If I use a fast shutter speed I need to get some light on the little suckers. Sometimes they don't care for the light
There are so many things I don't know but with digital photography you can go out and shoot a couple hundred shots and it they are junk, just delete them and try again.
I forgot to mention that I am finding that I now need glasses and when you are trying to get these little guys in focus, it is a plus to be able to see them.
Don't be hiding. We need more input so go buy a digital and start a shooting

you are close enough to jap slap my and then I will buy you Chinese You should buy as I am now unemployed
Thanks for the imput, I think I gotta get some glasses
