The weather was great going to be nice on Chrismas Eve so Donnie and I planned a morning hunt. We got permission to hunt a spot near an old forge! I started hunting the lawn then moved down to the brook. The area was littered with signs of a lot of activity but I was lazy an didn't want to dig a lot of trash so I headed up the hill. Normally I love the trash but I figured i'd head up to where some of the workers may have camped. The spot I left was freshly brush hogged and i figured i'd leave it for Donnie and the IDX. He always brings me to some great spots and i hoped i could turn him on to an old coin or 2. i found some great nails and saw Donnie had moved down to the clearing next to the water. All of a sudden I got the excited yell, " I got a Large Cent!" I ran over and he had a nice old copper in his hand. He rinsed it off and we noticed some strange markings and what Donnie described as a tennis racket looking thing. He said, "I was saving this area for you and wondered why you hadn't stayed here." Well I told him the truth I had become lazy digging all the barrel loops and lanterns and said Merry Christmas. I hunted for a bit and found one myself. Talk about elated! We were having a blast. Donnie then yelled. "Yeeehaaa, silver!" and pulled out a merc. We found some other goodies and up the hill I got a barber quarter. The best thing was we were home to our wives by 10:45 and life was great. I noticed 1807 on my coin and 1788 on his!Donnie later left a message that, "the coin was a "beep" coin and he looked it up and idetified it to the t." I had to wait a few hours before i could find out it was our first CT copper because the answering machine had cut off the CT part. Well it was a great day and glad to share it with all of you. It was great to find the CT copper and dime(1945) and a large cent (1807) and quarter(1907 O) which were exactly a century apart and a century from 2007. Merry Christmas!
